Before your anger takes over, fret-not local citizens of Azeroth, as the advertising agreement will not enter the beloved virtual realm of World of Warcraft, but instead be placed on Blizzard's websites and be otherwise limited to BattleNet, which already contains advertisements for other Blizzard products.
The advertising agreement between Massive Inc. and Activision Blizzard will see the advertisements apply to American, Canadian, European, South Korean and Australian residents. In addition, an already existing deal with Activision has been extended, which will see advertisements placed in a future eighteen titles from the publisher, both on the PC and Xbox 360.
This will see advertisements to be placed in Guitar Hero World Tour (which, like previous titles in the series already contains hard-coded product placement), James Bond: Quantum of Solace, and a number of other titles, including an upcoming Transformers game.
Last week, the Microsoft owned ad agency announced that it had signed a deal with THQ to provide in-game advertisements in the future. Massive Inc., the company who handles in-game advertising were also responsible for providing support to Barack Obama's successful presidential campaign in the United States.
