Battlefield 2: Just what's in the 1.50 Update?

We've been catapulted right back to 2006, with two stories about Battlefield 2 in as many days!

Yesterday's promise of a 1.50 patch intrigued some gamers, who wanted to know more about what's going to be included. While the guys at DICE are still remaining pretty tight-lipped, but they've started to reveal a few features that are in store when the patch is released, hopefully "before Christmas".

In a move that should please many of you still playing, the main priority from the dev team has been to "secure Battlefield 2 against a number of attacks against the game". They've looked into the nature of the attacks, and have limited the impact of stats padding and leaderboard abuse, by implementing several short term solutions (with the help of GameSpy). That can only go so far, however, with several issues proving to be game- and server-based, requiring a new patch.

At this stage, the change-list looks something like this:
Server crashing – We have worked with the issues causing servers to crash, which has caused problems for the community (especially those who rent ranked servers).
Name/ID spoofing – Extra steps have been implemented to ensure the soldier being used belongs to the right account.
Commander assets – This is to stop the excessive spawning of multiple crates, UAVs or vehicles.
That's not all, we're told that DICE have plenty more where that came from, and the changes for Battlefield 2 will be slowly revealed as we get closer to that elusive release date. Will we see it before Christmas? Fingers crossed!
