New Dynasty Warriors trailer - again!
It's seems only yesterday that I was allowed to indulge my obsession with all things Warriors. Oh wait - that's because it was. Well, anyway, putting aside yesterday's rant on expansion packs, more Dynasty Warriors news has emerged from the Tokyo Game Show, in the form of a trailer for a brand new PSP title, Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce which promises to be a different concept from the other titles in KOEI's successful third-person battlefield games. Gooooo trailer!

Well that was... brief. I gather from that thirty seconds, most of which was company logos, that the series' characters, apparently not hardcore enough already (!), have been given some sort of uber or super Saiyan mode rather than a Musou move. Moving on from the inadequacy of promotional materials, here's what I've been able to dig up.

The best news is that the developers have had a good long think about the nature of their intended release platform, and played to its strengths. The prominent feature of Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce on PSP is that it will be playable in co-operative mode by up to four like-minded square-pushers, via the PSP's somewhat underused wireless link. You and your friends will assemble a party and fulfil missions - hence the Strikeforce part of the name - such as capturing positions or defeating bosses. You can also use your wireless link to share items and content around, including downloads from the Playstation Network. Characters now carry two weapons, each of which is customisable.

The roster seems to include most of the Dynasty Warriors 6 cast in their next-gen incarnations, though whether characters who suffered cloning will have their movesets restored, ala the coming expansion packs, is unknown. Combat focus has shifted somewhat, anyway, adding a bunch of new moves to create an in-air fighting style, so you can bounce around defying gravity like an old kung fu flick.

The PSP has already proven itself such a great platform for the repetitive nature of previous Warriors titles that I can't help feeling this one, with its focus on multiplayer, is going to be a firm favourite when it turns up next year.
