First Dynasty Warriors 6 expansion confirmed by trailer
If you're a fan of pressing square (and if you are you'll know what I mean), you'll probably already by intrigued by the article's title. If not, a brief refresher: Dynasty Warriors 6, the latest installment in KOEI's best-selling battlefield action series, was received by fans with mixed feelings due to its unfinished nature. The series has made a habit of releasing expansion packs including extra content, but the latest title appeared missing at least half its content, angering many who saw the move as a vanilla money-making exercise by dividing the full game into pieces, as opposed to the fan-favourite extras to the main game contained in previous expansions.

Whether you feel KOEI are justified or not, the fact remains that Dynasty Warriors 6 is not a full game, and something must be done if you're to continue indulging your square-tapping-obsession. Mysterious screenshots abound, but this trailer from the Tokyo Game Show is the first official look at the next expansion.

It's just about as short as you could possibly get without turning it into a screenshot, but its appreciation is enormous amongst fans. Jokingly (and politically incorrectly) referred to as "Warriors for the obsessive-compulsive", the Empires expansions take the standard action game and make it one phase of a larger game, in which the player takes control of one force and territory and sets out to conquer Three Kingdoms period China through battle, diplomacy, and upgrading of held territory. Usually there's a bunch of extra content - artwork, voice galleries, unique character interaction scene - to be unlocked, as well as a create-a-player mode.

It's not yet known whether this expansion will include the new movesets for neglected characters that have been spotted in leaked screenshots, or whether we'll need to wait for the Xtreme Legends pack to see Zhang He's claws and Ling Tong's nunchucks/triple staff. Nevertheless, the breaking of KOEIs silence is a huge relief, and Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires should be available via Xbox LIVE and the Playstation Network... one day.
