Today seems to be a day of soundtrack related news, with 2K Games today announcing the soundtrack for the upcoming NBA 2K9. With the release of the game imminent, we've got a list of all the tracks featured in the game, which is headlined by the likes of The Cool Kids, Beastie Boys, N.E.R.D and The Pharcyde.

NBA 2K9 is the "this season's highly anticipated basketball title" from 2K Games. The soundtrack features an "eclectic mix of artists", with an exclusive track from DJ UNK and an original recording from The Cool Kids, entitled "2K Pennies". NBA 2K9 will also continue the tradition established by 2K Sports, incorporating some artists as in-game characters.

Tim Rosa, Director of Brand and Lifestyle Marketing at 2K Sports had the following to say regarding the soundtrack:

Every year our NBA 2K soundtrack features music innovators that push boundaries in the same way our franchise does. With NBA 2K9 we’re continuing the tradition with The Cool Kids representing our deepest music integration. They will appear in the game’s NBA Blacktop streetball mode, will perform on the 2K Sports Bounce Tour, and they recorded an original song which we’re giving away for free on the 2K Sports website.

Twenty five tracks that comprise the electic collection of audio that will back slam dunks, three-point shoots and other basket-bally things.

Chuck Inglish and Mikey Roots of The Cool Kids, who will tour alongside NBA 2K9 on the 2K Sports Bounce Tour and recorded the exclusive track "2K Pennies" for the game had the following to say:

Video games are an important part of culture and our lifestyle. For years we’ve been playing games, but have never been inspired by the songs in them. When 2K Sports presented us with an opportunity to create an original song for NBA 2K9, we knew we had to create a song that embodied the sport of basketball. We had to make kids everywhere appreciate the song as much as the game.

In addition to all of the above, NBA 2K9 will also see in game appearances of DJ Steve Aoki, Aceyalone, Bobbito Garcia, and Phife Dawg. Downloads of the music are now available for purchase through the new 2K Beats Channel, ahead of the retail release of the game the 10th of October. The game will be available on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and the PS2.
