Bioshock on PS3 gold, Rapture tours available on 17th
2K Games Australia have just informed us that the PS3 version of BioShock has gone gold. This means that development of the PS3 version, which will sport new content and an extension of the BioShock game is now complete, with the game now in a manufacturing phase.

Ahead of the release on the 17th of October in Australia and New Zealand, PS3 owners will be able to enter Rapture (ignoring any travel warnings) for the first time on October the 2nd, in a free demo. BioShock's latest appearance will see a retouched and optimised Rapture for PS3 gamers to explore, with plans to add new features not seen on the Xbox 360 and PC.

The first of these new features is the all new "Survivor mode" which ramps up the difficulty by making enemies tougher and the player far more vulnerable to enemy attacks. The use of Vita-Chambers will still be allowed though, but they will significantly disadvantage the player, by taking away some of their collected EVE. (EVE is the substance that allows gamers to use Plasmids, offering them an advantage in combat.)

In addition, the PS3 version of the game will have full support for PS3 trophies, and all new downloadable content which will be made available through the Playstation Store. The cost of this content is yet to be confirmed at this stage.

As the winner of a large number of "Game of the Year" awards last year, BioShock for the PC and Xbox 360 was showered with much deserved praise. Set in the submerged city of Rapture, BioShock explores the the collapse of Andrew Ryan's utopian vision, which is brought to life in a stunning art-deco style teeming with atmosphere.

For those that have not had a chance to check out the game on the PC or Xbox 360, BioShock should most definitely be worth a play on the PS3 in the coming weeks.
