Following from the news yesterday of Resistance: Retribution, and our promise to feature Resistance 2, we've got all the information right here. While we had heard briefly of the title before E3 last week, a number of new screenshots and actual information about the game has come to light.

Resistance 2 follows on the success of Resistance: Fall of Man, with the player taking control protagonist Nathan Hale once more. Expanding upon his character, Hale continues to fight in the war against the Chimera.

With the premise of Resistance 2 seeming somewhat pessimistic, Hale's chances are increased by being accompanied by a group of 'super soldiers' known as The Sentinels. While the PSP title, Resistance: Retribution will attempt to bridge the gap between Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2, early press indicates that the PSP title will not be essential to fully understanding the progression of the story.

Resistance 2 will also feature robust multiplayer support, in addition with a bunch of other features:

• Take on the role of Nathan Hale as he battles the Chimeran virus raging within. Fight for humanity's survival against new swarms of vicious Chimera equipped with new weapons along with re-designed favorites from Resistance: Fall of Man such as the Bullseye and Auger.

• Set in an alternate reality 1953 America, explore highly-detailed and interactive environments where the familiar meshes with the alien, resulting in an American landscape both beautiful and haunting.

• Experience online co-op in a completely new way. Choose between three distinctive character classes and join seven other players to battle through a unique story that parallels the main campaign. Players will also enhance their characters' attributes as they unlock new armour sets and equipment along the way.

• Online competitive multiplayer – a cornerstone to Resistance: Fall of Man's global appeal – just got better. Engage in massive 60-player competitive combat with an entirely new squad-based focus designed to balance progression, firefights and rivalries.

• Join MyResistance.net, an unrivalled FPS community complete with skill-based match-ups, dedicated gaming/community/stats servers, social networking tools and an open invite system.

Finally, there is a bunch of new screenshots on the mirror. Surprisingly, the release of Resistance 2 is a lot sooner than what I'd anticipate, meaning we can expect to see it 'out' in November this year. Whether that means a local release at that time (or not) is still uncertain at this point, but we'll keep you informed as we learn more. Resistance 2 is one of the few Playstation 3 exclusive titles which Sony focused on this year at E3.
