LIVE BLOG:
(most recent event first)

8:57am: So! Some interesting bits and pieces, still a bit light on those "major surprises" though. As soon as I get this list tidied up, I'll share it with you, and will try to find some details for you about Rage.

8:55am: JR's back on stage now, discussing all the great games that are on show. We have the (almost) full list and will share them with you shortly, complete with pictures and any assets we can get our hands on.

8:54am: This is RAGE, a new FPS from id. Sounds interesting... let's see what it looks like!

8:53am: ...the audience is now being treated to some great footage. We are being treated to great footage of the audience :)

8:52am: ...a new partnership today has been announced, EA has joined forces with id Software, creators of the world's first first-person shooter.

8:51am: Valve is an "EA Partner", which is what they're calling developers who are working closely with EA to create fantastic games.

8:50am: John Riccitiello is back on stage, thanking everybody for the work they've been doing - and he's full of praise for Valve. Portal was one of his favourite games last year!

8:49am: *watching gameplay footage as Gabe leaves the stage*

8:49am: Much later, actually - for PC and Xbox 360 simultaneously in November. :)

8:48am: They learned a lot through the development of TF2, in terms of hierarchy and character design, and this is being tweaked before the game is released, later this year.

8:48am: ...if you go in as a big mess and just wander around, you'll be wiped out quickly. Go in as a team and be organised, you can wipe *them* out.

8:47am: The outcomes of the game are reliant totally on the way you - and your team - interact with various things. We're now seeing a couple of encounter videos, to see how they play out differently.

8:47am: Discussing what's involved in the game - Convergence. It uses the narrative and emotional impact of Half-Life and social features of Counter-Strike and TF2, combined with unique co-op gameplay to create the next step in social entertainment.

8:45am: yay Gabe Newell! He's talking about Left 4 Dead, the new Valve shooter :)

8:43am: We get to see a new trailer that will give us a taste of the game - hoping that it will follow in the footsteps of Mass Effect and be a new great franchise for consoles.

8:42am: Greg Zeschuk is talking about Dragon Age Origins now, which is from Bioware? ...a successor to Baldur's Gate.

8:40am: Now seeing a very quick video that shows off some of the games on the new platform.

8:40am: Also implementing the wifi connectivity - to play against your friends :)

8:40am: The touch-screen is being used, as well as the accelerometer - to make you go forward in a game, etc. They've now implemented that into Scrabble - shake the phone and the tiles will shuffle!

8:39am: Tetris, Sudoku and Scrabble are all currently available for the iPhone platform, you can grab them now!

8:38am: Now we're looking at mobile games - specifically for the iPhone (which encompasses the iPod, iPhone and iPhone 3G).

8:38am: "Game-agnostic" - I like that.

8:37am: Challenge your friends to beat the achievement you just got - or sit around and talk trash at them.

8:36am: Shawn Fanning is now speaking about Rupture - a new friends-tracking system. Keep an eye on what your friends are playing, profile pages, etc.

8:36am: Battlefield Heroes and the new Sims Store both use the new Nucleus system - it's live in more than 30 countries via the EA store.

8:35am: Nucleus is a new online identity program - the Nucleus is your ID, basically. You can carry it across different platforms and it will remember who you are.

8:34am: Nanea Reeves runs the EA Online group, and is speaking now about how they are trying to incorporate online features into their games.

8:33am: ...of course, he considers EA to be one of them :)

8:33am: John Pleasants is from EA's Redwood Studio. He's only been with the company a few months and is talking about companies that are early adopters when it comes to technology.

8:31am: She's gone now. Peter Moore is recapping that EA Sports is serious about the Wii.

8:30am: The character animations are very sweet. Very lifelike and respond in human ways.

8:29am: Peter Moore just got a Birdie, and his little Tiger Woods character did a little dance. Yay!

8:29am: Her name is Natalie. She looks horribly like her avatar in the game - not sure if she's a selectable character or if she's personalised it.

8:28am: I'm impressed - she knows what she's talking about, is configuring the game and selecting her club properly. This obviously isn't her first time.

8:27am: To the golf course! Tiger Woods PGA 09 is now on show, with ... a lady golfer I missed the name of. They're playing on the Wii, with motion-sensing club controls.

8:25am: That wrapped up what Peter Moore had to say on the topic of NBA Live 09 - where are we going next?

8:23am: Watching the gameplay - the first time it's been shown - it looks pretty swish, actually. I'm quite interested in seeing how the game pans out, it's intrigued me now!

8:21am: They're now showing how the game works, playing it and giving running commentary... "That's the best defence the Lakers have played this entire series!"

8:21am: btw, that was Bill Walton on stage earlier. He makes Peter Moore look tiny!

8:19am: "Made fresh daily" is the catchphrase - as the season plays on, the data will be downloaded and the characters will be updated.

8:19am: Brett Nielsen is about to explain "Dynamic DNA". Apparently that takes a bunch of stats and details and condenses it all into DNA strands which are then transferred to the characters.

8:15am: He's got actual sportspeople on stage with him again this year, to talk about how the video games compare to the real thing, and taking a close look at NBA Live 09.

8:14am: Landmark year for EA Sports - the 20th anniversary of Madden!

8:13am: Peter Moore is back on the E3 stage, for the first time representing EA Sports. He's still a good speaker.

8:12am: ...it still looks wonderful, of course.

8:11am: Finally, we're being shown a trailer for the game that shows what level it's up to "now" :)

8:10am: Apparently Wright is now facing the same comments that he faced when he first launched the Sims - about it not really being a game, and what's really involved, and nobody will want to buy it because it's not a real game. Heh.

8:09am: There's a documentary that was worked on with National Geographic and Spore devs... sounds interesting, I'll have to look that up.

8:07am: Now explaining about how things are uploadable to YouTube, in case you weren't aware.

8:07am: ...except some of those inanimate objects were pretty good. I liked the plane and the boat...

8:07am: He's currently showing some of the creatures that have been created by gamers using the Creature Creator. I think ours are better, really.

8:06am: (stream's having issues again) :(

8:05am: ...and explaining how the Creature Creator ties in with the full version of the game and how the creatures you're making now will all be playable when you get the whole game later.

8:04am: btw, he's wearing a tshirt that loudly proclaims "SAVE SETI AT ARECIBO", if you were curious.

8:04am: Creature Creator has been at the top of the US charts since it was launched.

8:03am: ...well, at the moment, he's talking about how he loved science as a kid and showing a Venn Diagram of Science and Creativity, showing that Spore is in the middle there.

8:02am: Hello, Will Wright. Are you here to talk about Spore?

8:01am: Being shown lots of gameplay. I can't get over the colours used, I think that's what sets it apart for me. It's very visually pleasing.

7:59am: You can get all the way through the game without firing a shot, apparently. This is an achievement and will score you points.

7:59am: Faith is running around on rooftops, demonstrating a bit of Parkour as well as the odd bit of hand to hand combat before disarming an enemy and taking his gun.

7:56am: Runner vision shows Faith (the main character) where she should be running, and guides her a bit through the various paths in the city.

7:56am: Patrick Soderlund from the European Studios (that'd be DICE) is now here to show off Mirror's Edge. It is very clean and crisp-looking, so pretty to look at.

7:55am: I've learned that it has a zero gravity model, no HUD and - apparently - looks a bit like Doom 3.

7:54am: After watching some actual gameplay footage, it seems that was all he was there to say, as he's now showing us a trailer (with Twinkle Twinkle playing), "to close". From what I can see from here (which is, admittedly, not much), it looks like they've got that survival-horror thing pretty much in the bag.

7:50am: ...we're back, sort of, just in time to see some gameplay footage. It is very dark, which seems apt.

7:49am: (...as we again lose the connection to the feed - ack!)

7:48am: Following The Sims with something totally unlike it - Glen Schofield has taken the stage to talk about his new project, Dead Space.

7:46am: Now looking at a video for The Sims 3 - it's much 'bigger' than ever before, each little Sim has a bigger personality, things that happen on one side of town can affect the other side - it's much more like "real life".

7:44am: We're now moving on from SimAnimals onto The Sims, with a look at the Beta for The Sims 2 Store, which is a stepping stone to enable gamers to do more with The Sims 3 (due 2009!).

7:44am: The whole game is very simple and easy to use. JR is explaining that to make a baby bear, you need a "Mommy Bear and a Daddy Bear who love each other very much" - and put them together, and hope that they give each other a special hug... Awww.

7:42am: It is, of course, very very cute.

7:42am: ...and we get to see a video, which I'm hoping we'll have a copy of for you soon!

7:41am: Create a group of animals, their friends, their habitat... some are friendly, like deer - some are not-so, like wolves.

7:41am: He'd like to introduce the latest in the franchise - Sim Animals.

7:41am: (our feed is still buggy, sorry for any interruptions!)

7:40am: First off, Rod Humble, head of the Sims Studio.

7:40am: Instead of powerpoint and stats and numbers, they're going to talk to the people behind the games, the people that make the games.

7:40am: Hello, John Riccitiello! He's telling us this is the biggest EA E3 Presentation, and is now explaining how they're going to do things very differently to the way that other companies have presented things.

7:39am: Mirror's Edge is looking quite shiny :)

7:37am: ...and we're live, after some dramas with our feed, watching a video montage of all the games you can expect to see :)

7:21am: Just sorting everything out here, we've got about 10 minutes to go. I've got the list of what games EA have on show, so I'm spending some time making that a bit more user friendly for you.

+ 2 Digg it!
