Guitar Hero: On Tour - How to stop wrestling with the Guitar Grip

My experience with Guitar Hero: On Tour was a constant struggle with the Guitar Grip and its desire to separate itself from the DS Lite GBA slot. This failure of Guitar Grip severely weakens the value and playability of the overall package.

As I promised at the end of the review, I had a few grand plans to concoct an easy solution to keep the Guitar Grip where it belongs, inside the DS, and not constantly dislodging itself. If you're one of the ambitious souls who picked up Guitar Hero: On Tour in spite of any reviews, and are unhappy with the Guitar Grip becoming dislodged, read on and you'll find one simple solution which can fix your woes.

While my initial ideas were pretty obscure - I've settled on using simple household objects, in this case, rubber bands. They were chosen largely because (unlike something like gaffer tape - the obvious roadie choice), they won't cause any permanent damage to the DS body or the Guitar Grip itself.

You'll need at least two rubber bands before beginning. Insert the Guitar Grip into your DS. Next, place the DS on a table, with it open. Take one of the rubber bands and place it over the left side of the Guitar Grip, stretching it so it meets the right side of the DS body. Once the rubber band is secure, take another, this time placing it over the right side of the Guitar Grip and stretching it across the left side of the DS.

At this stage - have a play and see if it suits. If the Grip continues to become dislodged, apply additional rubber bands using the same technique. I found four rubber bands (two on each side) were sufficient to keep the Grip in place. Even though it's somewhat simple to devise such a method of keeping the Guitar Grip in place, my initial attempts were much more clumsy, involving rubber bands going across the screen.

Consumers really shouldn't need to take such things into consideration when purchasing a new product. The Guitar Grip bundled with Guitar Hero: On Tour is my main grievance with the title, but understandably, designing a peripheral for the public en masse is no easy task. Others may not experience the issues I did - so if you've been happily playing the game unaided, enjoy.
