Bioware and LucasArts, sitting in a tree... K.O.T.O.R. number three!

KOTOR: One of the greatest Role Playing Games ever
It seems as though Bioware have been awfully busy as of late, with the announcement yesterday of Mass Effect to be released on PC. Barely giving time for gamers to get their heads around that, it seems that a tiny bit of information we had received not too long ago has developed further. This, information; directly relating to activities in a galaxy far, far away has now had some confirmation through an EA Analyst Report, and a list of planned titles.

We previously brought you information on the announcement of an old partnership between Bioware and LucasArts, but a new Knights of the Old Republic game was not officially announced at that time. It appears that something is happening now.

This little nugget of information appeared in a list of projected titles to be published by EA or that are within its studios development schedules. Relating to Bioware , a single line stated 'KOTOR'. This suggests a new game.

The original Knights of the Old Republic titles used a modified version of the Neverwinter Nights 'Aurora' engine, and I think that its fairly safe to assume that we'll be seeing the new KOTOR in a modified Neverwinter Nights 2 'Electron' engine. The Aurora engine (albeit heavily modified) was recently used in The Witcher by CDProjeckt.

I don't need to state how good the previous titles in the franchise have been, with previous KOTOR titles being excellent, with highly engaging narratives (the original KOTOR is the only game that has such a massive plot twist that I was actually shouting at my computer as it was happening in disbelief and anger). Add to this excellent game play and memorable characters (Who can forget HK-47?), and you've got one of the greatest role playing games of all time.

The sequel built upon the first game, making a few improvements here and there. I'm looking forward to the third instalment in the series, as I imagine many of you are as well. We'll bring you more news as its announced. I'm tempted to dust off my copy of the games and give it another whirl while I wait for the new instalment in the series.
