It's finally happened. Steam has branched out into the final frontier... Massively Multiplayer Online gaming. That's right, you can now get your MMO fix just as easily as your FPS, with Valve announcing today a deal that sees award-winning title EVE Online making its way to the digital distribution service.
To celebrate, they're offering a 21-day free trial period for all Steam gamers, with a $5 discount for the first full month if they decide to stay with it.

Jason Holtman, director of business development at Valve explains:

In case you're unfamiliar with the game, EVE Online hosts hundreds of thousands of players in a persistent, online universe. The game files are free to download, with a paid subscription per month in order to play - and the latest expansion, released recently, gives a rane of new gameplay features, wrapped up in a mind-blowing graphical update. Everything ingame - every stargate, station and ship, is beautifully and spectacularly rendered.
Not sure how it'll all work yet - whether or not you can download the client file from us, or if you have to get it through Steam, but I'm assuming someone will figure it all out and let me know, right?

"Launching EVE on Steam means the addition of another fantastic PC game and the introduction of MMOs on Steam. The team at CCP continues to expand EVE's universe and gameplay for the legions logging in to play each month, just as we continue to expand Steam's consumer and developer features."Magnus Bergsson, VP of Sales at developer CCP continues:
"We are immensely excited and honored that EVE Online will be the first MMO on Steam. Steam has been the leading online distribution platform for a long time and home to some of the most dedicated gamers around, so we couldn´t think of a better fit for EVE Online."
