Max Payne movie to star Mark Wahlberg...?

The latest movie-to-film adaptation under discussion is 20th Century Fox's big-screen version of Max Payne. As with all movies, the big drawcard is not so much the story as the actors who you get to star in it - so who's currently in talks to play Mr. Payne himself?

...Mark Wahlberg. Apparently he gets grumpy if anyone calls him Marky Mark these days, but I can't help but wonder if the Funky Bunch will show up onscreen as part of his entourage.

The project is under the watchful directorial eye of John Moore, who you may recognise from such films as Behind Enemy Lines, as well as recent remakes of both The Omen and Flight of the Phoenix. Wahlberg is currently onset for Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones, but will start shooting this new film once that wraps.

Early stories state the film will follow the plot of the original game, which sees Payne as a cop "haunted by the tragic loss of his family and has little regard for rules as he investigates a series of mysterious murders", according to Variety magazine.

Variety doesn't mention their thoughts on whether or not Wahlberg can pull off the patented Payne constipated face, but we've seen enough movies to think this one is, finally, some pretty decent casting.
