There's been some discussion on the forums in recent times about getting into gaming ...on a Mac. It's pretty widely acknowledged that if you're not using Windows, your choice of games is pretty severely limited ...but looks like
EA is trying to change that.
They've just released the first four games from their catalogue specifically for Mac OS X - so if you're an Apple fan, you can now visit the Apple Store and get your hands on
Battlefield 2142,
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,
Need for Speed Carbon and
Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars!
(...well, "now" if you live in the US. They haven't yet shown up on the Australian online store, sorry.)
The games are set to appear in stores (again, in the US, not sure about over here yet) over the next two weeks - with
NFS Carbon and
Harry Potter arriving this Tuesday, August 21st - and
BF2142 and
C&C3 Tiberium Wars showing up a week later, on the 28th.
Now - to sort out some confusion - these aren't the first
EA titles ever available for the Mac. Right now, even in Australia, you can pick up a whole bunch of
The Sims 2 titles, licensed by
Aspyr for the platform.
These are the
Big Four though, so just in case you've been living under a decent-sized chunk of granite over the last year or so, we've got some handy information about each of the four titles to bring you up to speed.
 | Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, licensed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Harry's fifth year at Hogwarts is shaping up to be his most exciting yet. Fearing that Hogwarts' venerable Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, is lying about the return of Voldemort in order to undermine his power, Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge appoints a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher to keep watch over Dumbledore and the students. But Professor Dolores Umbridge's ministry-approved course leaves the young wizards woefully unprepared, so Hermione, Ron and Harry form "Dumbledore's Army" with the goal of preparing themselves and other courageous young wizards for the extraordinary battle that looms against VoldemortTM and his Death Eaters. |
