Star Wars Galaxies Shuts Down, Rebels Win
The sci-fi MMO Star Wars Galaxies has shut down forever.
After eight years of service to fans of George Lucas's convoluted sci-fi universe, the game was consigned to the digital dustbin of history, just in time for the Northern Hemisphere launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic.
As Chris Thursten reported over at PC Gamer, the developers commemorated the occasion by bending the rules – creatures available to battle during the games twilight hours included a giant, malevolent Ewok: the Megawok.

Player ships jostle for space in the skies above Mos Eisley as the end approaches. Ceaseless fireworks fill the sky with lag-inducing particle effects and players run about in garish costumes, or their underwear, or both. There’s dancing, and crowds of veterans giving away their rarest, most valuable gear to whoever wants to play with it. A fifty-foot-tall Jedi stands in the corner, motionless, unexplained. Players break off to scrap with the increasingly ridiculous monsters thrown at them by the developers: a super-sized reptilian Krayt dragon, and a massive spear-toting Ewok known as the Megawok. You can read Thursten's article in full by clicking here, and there's a touching sign-off from Tony "Teesquared" Tyson over at the games official website.
