Gears of War To Get the Movie Treatment

Let's face it, games turned in to movies haven't quite captured the same quality treatment that comic books do now. Comic books have gone from being a below average movie adaptation to a much better quality treatment. Consider X-men, Hellboy, Sin City, Daredevil, Batman, Superman, Spiderman to name just a few. Compare these to Bloodrayne, Doom or Silent Hill. Hopefully that will change with the creation of the Gears of War movie. There was never an action title better suited to movie adaptation (look at how they left out some important details from the Doom movie). The game follows a group of Gears (a small combat squad) as they go in search of information about the Locust plague. You play Marcus Fenix, once a war hero he seeks to get his name back after being placed in prison.
The screen play is by Australian scriptwriter Stuart Beattie. Stuart has been responsible for a number of blockbuster films including, Pirates of the Carribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Collateral. The well known studio New Line Cinema have acquired the rights to make the film from Microsoft and Epic Games because of the treatment by Stuart Beattie. The game will follow Marcus, Dom and the Cole Train. Of course, this has all just been announced so don't expect the film for a couple of years.
