PS3 Other OS Case Closes - End Result Predictable

When Sony axed the ability for Playstation 3 users to utilise the system's Other OS option, gamers were pissed. None more so than Michael Trebilcock however. The Adelaide man, who also used his console as a computer due to the Other OS ability, took his complaints straight to the court, seeking $800 from Sony, an amount reached "calculating how much it would cost to rent a laptop for each day the component has been removed".

Now it seems a verdict has been reached and the result is predictable to say the least.

According to the ABC, Sony has been cleared of any wrongdoing regarding the upgrade by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and Holden Hill Magistrates Court dismissed the claim. Fortunately for Mr Trebilcock, he was not made to pay Sony's legal costs.

Sony had earlier rejected an offer from Mr Trebilcock to settle for a total of $850 at a prior directions hearing.

While this mightn't solve the issue within Australia, around the globe the electronics giant is defending other claims for the much criticised removal. Sony is currently defending a class act law suit from gamers in the US. Sony has long since defended the removal stating that it was necessary to remove the specific aspect as it was "was posing a security risk" and that the software update was "optional".
