Description Still billed as the most popular online action game, Counter-Strike often receives credit for popularizing teamplay in online games. Originally released in 1999 as a downloadable modification for the pivotal first person shooter Half-Life, Counter-Strike was a fixture on every serious PC gamer's machine by the time it was "officially" released by Sierra in 2000. With a full complement of real world pistols, rifles and shotguns, teams of players battling back and forth as terrorists and counter-terrorists in Counter-Strike became the basic blueprint for many modern team-based online shooters.
