QLD gamers defy Atkinson, push for statewide R18+ rating
Obstructionist SA State Attorney General Michael Atkinson has stated repeatedly that he has no intention of permitting a nation-wide R18+ rating for video games.

With that in mind, Queensland gamers are taking matters into their own hands. A petition has been started at the official website of the Queensland Parliament, with a view to creating a R18+ rating for the exclusive benefit of the Sunshine State...

Steam Top Sellers - Week ending 15th November 2009
What have the gaming public been buying this week via digital distribution platform Steam? Lots of sequels, well, at least for the top two spots. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 somehow managed to be the biggest seller, and it was closely followed by Left 4 Dead 2. While strictly not a sequel, Dragon Age: Origins also performed well, with the standard and deluxe editions both selling a bunch of copies. The top five was rounded out by Borderlands.

If you want to what else sold the most last week, you'll just have to check out the Steam Top Sellers for the week ending November 15th!

Coming Attractions - 16/11/09
The new releases just keep on coming, but that's the sort of behaviour you expect for this time of year. This week sees the long-awaited but sadly censored release of Left 4 Dead 2, which will hit Steam on Tuesday afternoon and retail shelves on Thursday. Also premiering on Thursday is not one but three new Assassin's Creed titles. Finally, Goku and friends will be slugging it out yet again in Dragon Ball: Raging Blast, which I believe may be the 25th fighting game based on the popular manga and anime series, if my Dragon Ball knowledge is up to date.

Don’t forget to check out the full release schedule for the latest changes and information on upcoming games.

Weekly Digest - 16/11/2009
Each week, we collate the most popular stories that we published over the past seven days, plus a lineup of the most downloaded files added in the same timeframe. That way, in case you missed something, you can catch up in one helpful little spot, every Monday morning.

Last week, our video review of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 proved to be the most popular. Another big title, Dragon Age: Origins was also popular, giving PC gamers, and RPG fans something to celebrate about. Some new Unreal engine freeware, Prometheus made its way into the news, thanks to the Unreal Development Kit, and the top five was rounded out by Infinity Ward's announcement that people who purchased Modern Warfare 2 early wouldn't be punished. Nice.

The Warp Pipe - 15/11/09
Over the last decade, there have been some pretty amazing innovations made in the technology sector, particularly the games industry. The sort of stuff you could only dream about back in the 90s is effectively today's reality. Yet even as some of these innovations are made, other aspects of the games industry's products seem to be devolving from where they were previously.

This week on The Warp Pipe, we'll take a look at a few examples of the industry's backwards and forwards movement.

Each week, we collate the most popular stories that we published over the past seven days, plus a lineup of the most downloaded files added in the same timeframe. That way, in case you missed something, you can catch up in one helpful little spot, every Monday morning.

Last week, censorship of games dominated the top two spots, with much woe expressed by Australian gamers to the watered down version of Left 4 Dead 2 that we will be getting. Other censorship issues were also raised, and ways to tweak the PC version of Borderlands also proved to be popular. Our hands on with Alien vs. Predator was also enticing to many, and more outrage was directed towards Infinity Ward due to the fact that Modern Warfare 2 on the PC will not feature a developer console, preventing PC gamers from tweaking the game's performance.

Coming Attractions - 09/11/09
Even though there are more than 20 games due for release this week, most eyes are going to be fixated on the two showstoppers – Modern Warfare 2 and New Super Mario Bros. Wii. In the unlikely event that these two guaranteed Game of the Year candidates don't appeal to you, there are other good games on the way, such as Invisimals, Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier and A Boy and His Blob.

Don't forget to check out the full release schedule for the latest changes and information on upcoming games.
