The video game industry may outweigh Hollywood in terms of box office grosses, but there's one thing they have that we don't; multiple revenue streams. Rentals, home video income, TV rights can turn a box office dud into something marginally profitable. Video game publishers get one shot at it – the game you buy off the shelf or off your digital download service of choice. Beyond gouging the hell out of Australian gamers, publishers don't really try creating other revenue streams.
There is a way – tapping the collector's market.

The official Facebook page for the The Saboteur has released some new details about the 'softened' versions of the game -- versions custom-tweaked for countries with regressive censorship laws like Germany and Australia.
It would seem that the only thing Pandemic has cut from the game is the Swastikas. Aside from Nazi imagery, anything goes...

Blizzard is still hard at work on the latest patch for Diablo II, which will bring the dungeon-crawling loot-fest up to version 1.13. In response to allegations that the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 is a failure since it only accounts for 3% of the games sales, Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling has tried to put things in perspective on the IW forums.

Resumes published online by former members of a 2K Austin development team strongly suggest that their cancelled project was a massively multiplayer version of Sid Meier's Civilization.
With a look modelled on the highly stylised MMOs popular in South Korea, the 'strategy MMO' would have included many of the hallmarks of the Civ series, including architectural styles that change dynamically through history, large scale land battles, and customisable throne rooms...

Dante's Inferno is a game that I'm kind of looking forward to. While there are enough fantasy games, by the time it is released, it should be something fresh and new.
If the new cinematic trailer is anything to go by, the game should be pretty good. If only that sort of story telling and art direction could be maintained throughout the entire game, then I'd get really excited.

Stardock's 2009 report has revealed some pretty interesting data regarding Demigod. In the company's report, it has been revealed that only 23% of people who purchased the game even attempted to play an online game.
While that may be disturbing, Demigod is still selling a few thousand copies each week, meaning that the game has been fairly successful for the company, but as Gas Powered Games developed the game for multiplayer, it does illustrate that less and less people seem to be playing strategy games online, with something like less than 2000 people being online in Demigod at any given time.

Those of you who have tried to recently purchase Borderlands through Steam will have noticed that it has mysteriously disappeared from the Australian Steam Store.
The mystery has been solved, and the conclusion isn't all that good for Australian gamers. Due to an "internal error" at 2K games, Borderlands "was briefly available for download on Steam for Australian users at an incorrect price", said a 2K spokesperson.

Lurching its way on to Aussie screens this week, our hobbled version of L4D2 is a very different game to the one Valve created. Does the removal of guts and gore have a dramatic impact on the core gameplay though? Surely a bit of the old red stuff can't make that much of a difference, right? Read on to find out.

It’s no surprise that, if we had to choose to take one game to a desert island for the rest of our life, we’d take a Battlefield title. The sublime mix of vehicles, massive maps and destructible mayhem make it our favourite way to play online. It'd be a great way to spend our last two days before dying from dehydration.
Understandably, we’re rather excited about the release of today’s closed beta for Bad Company 2 - we’ve got a key, and will be recording a video preview post haste. To keep you busy in the meantime, check out this new Battlefield Moments video, showing exactly why this game makes MW2 its female dog.
