Crawl now available on Steam Early Access: Rad launch trailer

Crawl

After a frustrating delay, Aussie developer Powerhoof has finally made it to release day for Crawl, its competitive local-multiplayer beat-em-up-style dungeon, um, crawler.

Crawl pits four players against one another in a battle to kill monsters, gather treasure, and be the first to reach level 10 and slay the gatekeeper for their freedom.

As players kill monsters—did I mention those monsters are controlled by the other players in the game?—they gather XP, bringing them closer to their ultimate goal. Players inhabiting monsters gather player blood which can be traded at shrines for gold, which can be used to purchase devastating weapons and gear. Once a player hits level 10 and passes through the boss portal, they face a massive boss creature which also is controlled in three parts by the other players.

I defy you to refrain from making a purchase after checking out the excellent new launch trailer below. Crawl is available now for $9.99 on PC, Mac, and Linux via Steam Early Access.

I previewed Crawl over at Kotaku if you would like some more info.

I would pick it up, but it currently doesn’t even have online multiplayer. I literally can’t remember the last time I’ve had friends/family members gathered around my pc playing all on the same keyboard (probably ‘Cyberdogs’ back in ’94..)
Will be keeping my eye on it though.

stoibs,

With Crawl, Towerfall, Nidhogg, and Rock Band, local multiplayer sessions with friends are becoming a staple for me and my friends. Everyone shows up with their own 360 controller, and away we go!

Jason Imms,

Same here. We all play local at my place too. Broforce and Speed runners becoming staples.

I’d just like to say it’s great to see more local multiplayer games appearing. After ages of friends coming around and the only way to play the latest whatever game together is to send them home, this is great!

Needs to come out on the PS4 or Xbone, then I’d probably get it.
