Sony doesn’t consider “EA Access” good value for PlayStation gamers

EA Access

Following the announcement of EA Access, the subscription service that provides access to a subset of EA titles, multiple outlets have opined on the subject of publisher-specific subscription services, including us! Now Sony has weighed in via email with Game Informer, and doesn’t have much positive to say.

“We evaluated the EA Access subscription offering and decided that it does not bring the kind of value PlayStation customers have come to expect,” a Sony representative told us via email. “PlayStation Plus memberships are up more than 200% since the launch of PlayStation 4, which shows that gamers are looking for memberships that offer a multitude of services, across various devices, for one low price. We don’t think asking our fans to pay an additional $5 a month for this EA-specific program represents good value to the PlayStation gamer.”

I guess in the case of Xbox one, it doesn’t need Xbox live for single player, maybe Sony in some ways don’t want the competition of people paying a subscription to someone other than them for older games (ie pay EA for old EA games, instead of pay PS+ for whatever free games that gives you)

A rival subscription service.

Of course they will now start fighting.

Yeah because unlike the PS3 you need to be on PS+ to play online…

notthatdoug,

Have to love moving the goal posts to achieve growth.

Have to love moving the goal posts to achieve growth. Hell I personally like PS+ for the free games more than I like it for the online play.

they were going up massively before that aswell.

Or it’s the only way to play with their friends online.

That being said I have been a subscriber for a while now and have gotten some great free games for my ps3, sadly the PS4 offerings are a bit rubbsih, and probably will stay so until the end of the year when there is actually a back catalogue of titles

Common sense. Not worth it for a sub set of games from a single publisher.

What is interesting is EA is the publisher with the largest, consistent representation within the free game within PS plus…
