First footage of Mass Effect 4 shown, promises enormous open-world galaxy

Mass Effect 3

By on June 10, 2014 at 4:54 am

The very first, highly conceptual footage of Mass Effect 4 has arrived online. This time BioWare are promising that you can basically go anywhere in the galaxy you like, going to “a whole new region of space”.

“Pick a planet, across the other side of the galaxy,” say BioWare, “fly there and see what you’ll discover. We think fans of the series are going to be surprised at just how far we’re going.”

It was also revealed that BioWare Edmonton are working on a whole new IP, although what that was was completely not revealed. Here’s a video ripped from the stream, we’ll update with an official upload ASAP.

I want more info on the story dammit ! The game is looking fantastic though.

Aww was hoping for more of a trailer for the game than the making of, still what they showed was pretty.

Mass Effect has a history of promising great things, like a guy in a bar trying to pick up.

I think I I just wet myself a little…

So no information and casey hudson and mac walters talking about a story, when they’ve both proved that they can’t write themselves out of a paper bag? Yawn.

I got a little taste and now I want more :(

“What we can do now with the power of new consoles and amazing software”
Oh great….

“First footage” is a bit of a stretch. I don’t know if test renders, concept art, and some developer hopes and dreams really count.

Looks pretty, good to see the Krogan are still around and appear to have evolved a bit more. Must take place a few hundred years down the line. Armour looks good, feeling happy about the tiny bits we’ve seen.

Agreed… It’s not like that “power” wasn’t available for over 5+ years on the PC.
I’m done with this particular franchise anyway, especially if future releases are not on Steam.

El_Funko,

Actually that footage had that real wanky “Apple” feel to it. Hoping for more game footage later.

And then taking you home and turning out to be the best lay of your life, AMIRITE?

caitsith01,

Heh, I don’t know what sort of bar pickup nastywetsmear is thinking of because I don’t promise anything.

Wow that was a whole bunch of hot air and nothing. Maybe more interesting info later?

Lord_PorkSword

Did they actually make the move to Cryengine for this or stick with Unreal Engine?

That was my thought as well. “Oh yeah, the PC. We’re aware of it, sort of.”

Wow! Can I have your number? :D

When Casey Hudson spoke about listening to what the fans want, I wanted to break something. Sadly, his face was out of reach. As long as Hudson and Walters have ANYTHING to do with Mass Effect I will avoid it like the plague.

Genuine inquiry. Why do you say that?
