EVE Online developers take on MMA professional and are forced to submit, unsurprisingly

So EVE Online isn’t for everyone. Neither, as it turns out, is the world of cage-fighting, although that hasn’t stopped some intrepid developers over at CCP from giving it a good old crack. The only downside, to this story, was their failure to hold out for a few seconds longer, because then some bones would have quite literally cracked. In half.

I’m talking, of course, about the absolutely bizarre story that is a string of amateur fighters from the EVE Online maker taking on Gunnar “Gunni” Nelson, a professional MMA fighter. Arranged as light entertainment for the Eve FanFest, it was hailed at the Eve of Destruction, except the only destruction was a bunch of amateurs getting their wrists, forearms, legs, ankles and other bones that are generally relatively straight bent in weird and uncomfortable angles.

Sadly, because nobody actually had a death wish, the “fight” was restricted to grappling only, denying non-EVE Online fans the opportunity to see photos of a brand new octagon being adorned with the teeth of CCP developers. Perhaps there’s a metaphor here for the universe of EVE Online being as similarly no-holds barred as the world of MMA fighting, but considering all the restrictions put in place, I rather doubt it.

Still, props to CCP for going out on a limb with yet another unusual diversion to keep the fans happy. If only they could find that bugger who defaced the EVE monument and throw him in the ring instead.

You can view a gallery of the back-to-back submissions over at Eurogamer, or you can head over to the official Fanfest site to check out their galleries for even more shots of the event.

Author seems to have some serious hate for CCP employees… :-/

spoidar,

Not at all! I do like a bit of violence from time to time, though.

Gotta love the naivety of people that think that can go up against an MMA veteran with a small amount of experience. The fighter is hardly even having to hold the arm bar in the second gallery.

It would of been like watching a live action Steven Seagal movie – forearms being snapped every second as waves of martial arts enthusiasts launch themself at the master.

*One at a time.
