Blizzard may reveal a new game this year – Titan, Overwatch or an expansion?

Reaper of Souls

While Blizzard have been charming the pants off of everyone recently with Hearthstone and the Reaper of Souls expansion for Diablo III, they always have something else in the works. And as Kotaku‘s insider Superannuation points out, one Blizzard staffer’s LinkedIn profile (since deleted, but retained by Google Cache) suggests Blizzard will announce the project sometime this year.

While some are speculating another expansion for Diablo III (or World of Warcraft) following a recent survey, and Superannuation thinks it’s the rejiggered Codename: Titan, another possibility is possible – last month Blizzard registered a new trademark for the word Overwatch.

As XCOM and Counter-Strike players will note, overwatch is a military term for a small unit dedicated to providing support in the form of cover and suppressing fire. A squad based blend of action and tactics sounds like a good fit for Blizzard, could Overwatch be their next big success? Only time will tell for sure, but for now we all get to speculate wildly!

Overwatch doesn’t sound like much of a game worth code naming “Titan” imo. Or at least the meaning behind it. If it’s a 4 player co-op sort of game it might as well be an indie.

Give me RoS for Xbox!

IMO it will be SC2: Overwatch.

Project Titan doesn’t exist :D

I believe Project Titan and Overwatch are two separate products. The grammar in that particular section is a little funky though, and I had to reread it myself. That said, I loved Enemy Unknown, and would be keen on a Starcraft themed version. :P

Be nice if they announced something properly new and significant. It’s been a while.

^ that link is for an “unannounced title” by Blizzard where they are looking for a 3d weapons artist (ad reads as guns) for a next gen game. Probably related to Titan / Overwatch.

This would suggest a title that is relatively close up to a weapon, whether it be a first/third person title, or a squad based thing. Maybe they are trying to push out SC: Ghost after all these years.

They would change the names for a couple of reason if they did want to retry Ghost. Blizzard would want to distance the product from 10 year old news from when Ghost was originally announced, and it also conflicts with CoD Ghosts.

That’s just my 2 cents anyways.

somexspec: IMO it will be SC2: Overwatch.

Nope Starcraft 2:Legacy of the void is the next and final of the starcraft 2.
It’s reasonable that it’ll be an addition to the starcraft universe though … an RPG would be nice.

Every attempt at an RPG (not mmorpg) hasn’t been completed. See: Ghost and Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans. It’d be nice to see one though.

I though ghost was just a run of the mill Third person shooter ?

And lord of the clans was almost 2 decades ago.

Blizzard has the resources to do it now easily and I’m actually kind of surprised they haven’t made an RPG yet.

My understanding is that “Titan” was 100% scrapped at LEAST once due to them having no idea what they were making.

Blizzard has the worst development cycles ever.
