The Elder Scrolls Online? Never heard of it! It is entirely coincidental that we’re announcing alpha testing for World of Warcraft’s latest expansion, Warlords of Draenor – even though you can’t get in on it yet.
According to Blizzard, Warlords of Draenor alpha testing is now live and despite restricting the “very early stage” tests to “friends and family” it expects info to be data-mined and proliferated.
The main focus of this test is some new technology, which actually sounds like quite a profound change for the ageing MMORPG. Blizzard is hoping to convert the entire game and all users to a new file format in a patch before Warlords of Draenor releases, you see.
The new system, CASC, replaces the decade-old Mo’PaQ, and is expected to have substantial knock-on effects – fewer file errors when patching, better game performance, client hotfixing, better streaming data support, and more.
If you want to help test Warlords of Draenor, you need to flag yourself as a beta hopeful in your account settings.
