Watch Dogs will be a huge “blockbuster brand” to match any AAA rival, Ubisoft reckons

Watch Dogs

Notch one up in the hype stakes. Ubisoft junior brand manager Wayne Greenwell has upped the absurdity factor that tends to accompany the pre-release window with all AAA titles by telling MCV UK that Watch Dogs will be just as big as other AAA titles.

“With Watch Dogs, Ubisoft is building a new blockbuster brand to stand alongside other top tier triple-A titles and we expect it to be not only one of the best selling new IPs in recent memory, but also one of the best selling titles throughout 2014,” he exclaimed. “Excitement for the product remains incredibly high and gamers are desperate to finally get their hands on the title … this is reflected in our pre-orders which are hugely promising for a new IP and highlights the enthusiasm that has surrounded the product since it was first unveiled to the world.”

Greenwell cleverly didn’t mention any other AAA titles by name, despite the headline there, although it’s clear that despite the painfully long six-month delay Ubisoft feels Watch Dogs can recapture the hype it had last year. The title is set to be marketed heavily across all channels, with a swathe of online, print and TV press to go along with a digital campaign that will see recognised YouTube content creators partner with Twitch.tv for launch day.

Personally, I’m over all the hype. Just release the damn game already. Give me the world I’ve been praying for ever since the first Syndicate was released.

Shit game, any positive reviews you see will be because of Ubisoft bribes. The Nexus 7 scandal was small change compared to the advertising $$$ Ubisoft spends on this site and others.
Want a good game? Go play GTA V instead.

They should try focusing on doing their jobs for a change… making a “good game” first.

Brand it all you want after it turns out successful as a finished product, but a shitbox with big shiny mag wheels is still a shitbox.

Everytime they start talking marketing speak, it always turns out the that the game really did need the hype to sucker in those extra pre-order sales.

Looks junior brand manager has an eye on the senior brand manager position…

Maybe it’s because release is approaching but I hope this marketing fluff isn’t because of the game being shite. Watchdogs generated plenty of interest on it’s own already.

exactly, a good game doesnt need help generating hype it does it by itself, so im always weary of a massivly avertised game claiming to be the next new thing

i was gunna get another gfx card for sli for this game, but now im thinking i’ll wait till its released and see what ppl say

This, its just the guy saying what he thinks someone in his position should say.

I believe brand managers/marketing are a waste of money, statements like this certainly don’t increase sales.

As much as I hope this game turns out as good as it’s looking to be, Ubisoft are only setting themselves up for disappointment if it doesn’t become the mega success they are banking on.
While it will probably sell well with those already following along, it needs to click with a wide audience to become a “blockbuster brand”.

It’s not on PC, so that’s a rubbish game to me.

Every time Ubi opens their mouth I want this game a little less.

NoobyMcNoobnoob

hopefully this means that we are 3 steps closer to a GitS openworld sandbox game

What’s with all the negativity? I’m glad they have faith in their product.

Did Watchdogs kill some cute puppies or something? Why the hate?

..because the gaming community hates everything including cute puppies that Ubisoft probably killed.

From the linked article:

“Ubisoft is already preparing future sequels”

Here’s a crazy idea, release it, see if it does well, and if it does, THEN worry about sequels.
