Watch Dogs, Ubisoft and gift Nexus 7 tablets: A statement

Watch Dogs

Hello everyone! Editor-in-chief Tim Colwill here.

About a week ago, games.on.net attended a Watch Dogs preview event hosted by Ubisoft in Paris. One of our UK-based freelancers, Stace Harman, was on the ground there.

It’s since come to light that some members of the press who attended this event were gifted a complementary Nexus 7 tablet by Ubisoft pre-loaded with assets to use in their coverage — and to keep.

I would like to state for the record that games.on.net did not get offered a tablet, and is not in the practice of accepting such gifts. It seems like only some media were offered the gift, and we’re not sure what the criteria were. Our coverage and access was organised through Ubisoft’s Australian division, who have certainly never attempted to provide us with free gifts of any kind.

Ubisoft’s UK division issued the following comment overnight, apologising for what took place:

Our Watch Dogs thoughts will up later in the month when the embargo has passed.

Thanks for your time.

Ok righto.

I hope they served cake at least.

We’ll be covering the cake in a detailed, separate video preview.

10/10 GOTY all years

Off topic, but seriously…

They didn’t even try to offer you one; those bast*rds!

Well don’t you need a prescription before obtaining medication anyhow? Ubisoft would have been in all sorts of strife giving out medication you know…although it might have made the press event that more interesting I guess depending on what it was…

That better not be a lie…

Probably not, but it’ll be difficult to find and Tim WILL try to drop you in a vat of molten metal and fire first.

Is the cake video preview under an NDA as well?

Is it a single cake preview, or a taste showdown between Betty Crocker, Sara Lee and Nan’s secret recipe?

cake is srs business yo

It’s my birthday today so I do fully intend to eat the hell out of some cake soon. I’ll try and record it for you all

Happy Birthday mate!

Why is there no article for your birthday but there is one about not receiving free tablets? Come on!

Happy Birthday Tim

timmytim,

He’s disappointed that Ubisoft forgot his birthday. It’s tragic really…

Thanks for the birthday wishes! I am sorry I did not make my birthday a front-page news item, next year maybe :(
