Firaxis to announce a new AAA title at PAX East this weekend

We’ve already heard about how 2K are making a new Borderlands  in Australia, but it turns out they’ve got something else up their sleeve this week. Firaxis, according to a Twitter post from a PR representative, will be announcing a brand new AAA title at their PAX East panel.

2K are already showing off Evolve and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, but their “MEGAPANEL” on Saturday morning – so late Saturday, early Sunday morning our time, will be all about this new AAA game. What’s it going to be? I wouldn’t be betting on another XCOM expansion – the timing’s a bit early and using an entire panel for that isn’t justified. A new Civilization could be on the cards, but again, there’s no confirmation of that at all.

What do you guys think? A new Civilization or a brand new IP entirely – since those seem like the two most logical choices at the moment.

Come on Sid Meiers Pirates HD

Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri! although Pirates would be cool, but Ubi has that now with AC Pirates and Watch Dogs, MP open world pirates come on take my money!

notthatdoug,

Amen to that! :)

Alpha Centauri! PPLLEEAASSEEE

Pretty sure Electronic Arts still owns the Alpha Centauri franchise, so I doubt we will ever be seeing it anytime soon.

However, they could call the game something else like “Proxima Centauri” or something, I would *really* like to see a sequel, doubt it will ever happen though, I’ve only been waiting for more than a decade…

Pirates! or Alpha Centauri would be sweet – but the latter would be ruined if they, ahem, ‘streamline’ it as much as Civ V IMHO.

Or maybe they’re announcing a new Civ where enemy civilizations don’t relentlessly cheat and gang up on you.

“You were accidentally in our territory for one turn 3500 years ago… we will therefore trade you 1 iron for 11 dyes, 20 horses and 9000 gold per turn. Also we will declare war on you every 2 turns.”

caitsith01,

That makes for a fun game though.

lol,

Gave me a good chuckle reading this post because it’s so accurate.

I dont see it being a new pirates game as it was already released on Iphone in a remake form. Granted suffered from a few issues.

Won’t be a new Xcom because lets face it, the last XCom was near perfect thanks to that expansion. No need to reinvent the wheel.

Might be Civ 6… I mean it’d make sense since Civ 5 has had its usual 3 expansions already and probably wasn’t going anywhere. I doubt it though since not a lot could be gained from a new Civ game that wasn’t already done in 5.

I hope its not a new Gettysburg because there’s already a game coming out that’s going to do that way better than even Sid himself could.

I’m thinking entirely new IP is the most likely.

FTFY.

FTFY.

caitsith01,

Those were microprose though.. different developer. same people.. but different developer. That said, modern Microprose is an embarrassment to the industry lol.

Yeah, just jokes (sort of).

Highly doubt it would be more XCOM.

It would be really, really awesome if they did full upgrade of Pirates!, leaving in place the best bits (mostly, tooling around from an isometric viewpoint in a sweet ship being awesome) but improving the bits which have always been limited by the tech of the original (swordfighting, character interaction, etc).

Alpha Centauri could be turned into something truly epic too. But if they tried and did it wrong, the nerdrage would melt the internet itself.

Man, I miss when Microprose and Bullfrog were at their peaks. So many brilliant games.

doag,

I’m pretty sure Alpha Centauri was the first Firaxis Games game I played. Many many many lost hours.

caitsith01,

A-bloody-men!!
