Battlefield Bad Company 2

The upcoming closure of matchmaking service Gamespy may be leaving some games high and dry, but it looks like EA will be supporting players of Battlefield 2, Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 2142 to allow gamers to keep on fighting.

The news comes from a post on the official Origin Twitter account, which was later followed up by a direct clarifying statement to IGN:

“We’re working on finding a transition, but still have technical hurdles to overcome. We will make an announcement when there is news to share.”

Various companies are being affected by the shutdown differently; we’ll keep you informed as we learn more.

would love to get back into 2142! if the community was still there. fav bf game. back when bf was good, and not complete garbage.

BC2 used it? Wtf? How could they close the service when so many games used it?

Gamespy is going to die? I wasn’t even aware it was still around…

Server costs rise or anything else that leads to revenues < expenses. You can't exactly ask the publishers to start paying more money without scoffs.

What they should do is let us host our own dedicated servers, like back in the bf1942 and bf2 days.

there are unofficial mods out right now for BC2. And obviously the server files for it. Still very much a work in progress though.
