Titanfall’s anti-cheat system detailed: cheaters will be only allowed to play with other cheaters

Titanfall Cheat Detected

By on March 27, 2014 at 4:12 pm

Respawn have revealed that cheaters in Titanfall will be segregated off to their own private criminal matchmaking service, which only allows them to play with other people also caught cheating.

“Great news: you get to keep playing Titanfall! Less-great news: you only get to play with other cheaters. You can play with other banned players in something that will resemble the Wimbledon of aimbot contests,” says Respawn happily on their website today.

“Hopefully the aimbot cheat you paid for really is the best, or these all-cheater matches could be frustrating for you. Good luck.”

Titanfall lets you know if you’ve been detected as a cheater by putting the message you can see in the above picture into your game lobby.

If one of your friends is a cheater, it will drag you down too, unfortunately: if there’s even a single cheater in your party, you’ll be sent to Douchebag Island and only allowed to play with other cheaters until the cheater is removed from your party.

“You do not get permanently tainted just by playing with a cheater,” reassures Respawn, “you are only banned for cheating if you are actually cheating.”

Great idea I +1 this kind of advancement in gaming.

My only worry is with the mods that directly change the memory handle as it’s being issues will be hard to detect. especially if it’s done in ram directly before the game parses the actual code.

This is a great idea. Rather than trying to eliminate the minority community, just segregate them into their own category. I think some hackers enjoy the challenge of circumventing someone else’s software. Now that they have their own category to exhibit their hacks hopefully some will focus their efforts on competing with the other hackers rather than on evading detection.

jme,

Or they’re just going to have a nice sandbox in which to refine their software, and I’m sure they’ll be grateful for that.

There’s no need to waste time on cheaters, just ban them.

korten,

Well, at the same time, if all the cheaters are segregated away, it will be really easy to monitor them, and thus catch new hacks in development if they, as you said, use it as a sandbox for refining their software.

Thats shit if there is a cheater in your squad and you go down with them, it gives more ammo to the cheater for pissing a fair player off.

I dont rekon they should advertise you have been cheating, they should just automatically put you in the cheater server and watch them rage at the other cheaters and they wouldnt even know, now that would be funny.

Also which server provider is going to host for the cheaters? Dont you think its a waste of a server or resources attending to a cheater server, pretty shit IMO.

You didn’t read it, did you?

Good thing that will only be with other cheaters then.

I have to agree with

Why do this? just perma ban them and put all your resources into making the best experience for legit players.

I can’t see the purpose in this…

I like this … follows in line with VAC bans

sarracenia, korten

I don’t want to poop on your either of your parades, but how will a cheaters sandbox help hack makers evade detection (their main concern)? Why would they want to double ban someone after the first cheat detection? Because I imagine once you’re flagged a cheater they’re not going to care whether your hack is not detectable, so a hack maker will still be none the wiser.

Some other game did this, didn’t it?

orangetimer,

I… What?
What are you trying to say? I’m really confused.

What I said was, “If they use the Cheater servers as a sandbox to, as Korten said ‘have a nice sandbox in which to refine their software’, then the developers can very easily monitor the hacks that are happening in the Cheater servers, and thus update their hack detection in real time as the hacks are developed.”

To put it in smaller words.
If we watch them do bad things, we learn how to stop the bad things faster.

sarracenia,

My question would be, how would they know if their hacks *can* be detected if there’s no need to detect hacks for the cheaters pool? What would be the benefit of alerting the hackers in the cheaters pool to a detection?
