The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – We check out CDPR’s impressive new open world

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

We had the chance to check out The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt last month at a preview screening hosted by CD Projekt RED in Sydney. While we were unfortunately not allowed to go directly hands-on with the game, we did see the game being played live and came away hugely impressed by the scale and grandeur of what CDPR are planning.

Take a look at our thoughts below.

Never played any of the previous Witchers. I have to admit some of the features I heard about were quite interesting but a friend of mine kept talking it down.

This installment however, may offer enough for me to really enjoy. I do hope combat is fluid and not awkward.

Was waiting to see what the combat was like in this one too, Guess they didn’t show any at the preview yet.
Loved the first game – to this day I’ve yet to actually finish the sequel though because of it’s more arcadey hack’n’slash ‘Dodge-roll, strike, Dodge-roll, strike, Dodge-roll, strike,’ formula that I didn’t care much at all for =(.

We saw plenty of combat, but we weren’t allowed to take any footage. All the footage you see was provided to us or already released.

I can definitely say that in what we saw there was a lot of parrying and use of spells, but roll-and-strike was also present. I think it depends how you want to play?

Excited for this game more than anything else this year. CDPR make the first two games fantastic! If you’ve never played the first two please do. They’re regularly on special at steam and gog so put aside $10 and gives titles a try!

Surprised to hear so many people complaining about the combat. I for one had no problems with combat in both games. Yes it is different but different can also be good & refreshing. The Witcher series is one of the best rpgs in modern times and you owe it to yourself to at least try them out.

Forget about what your friend says because simply he isn’t YOU. It’s just like movies. A mate says such and such is crap, but then you watch it yourself and absolutely love it. The best thing to do is always check reviews and what most people are saying about it. If it’s positive across the board, then if the trailers/gameplay videos appeal to you then give it a run because you have nothing to lose right?

The Witcher 3 may very well get GOTY or at least RPG of the year.

Same here mate! This is THE TITLE for me this year out of all upcoming known releases. I would say Dragon Age Inquisition is coming in at 2nd.

The Witcher was a brilliant game, the Witcher 2 much less so with it’s consolitis UI and all and simplified combat. I still rather enjoyed it though. Can’t wait for The Witcher 3.

This has been number one on my most wanted list for a very long time now. Seems like it could be a game that you could just lose yourself in for weeks at a time.

There’s a full combat rebalance mod for TW2 which you can download here: http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher2/mods/635/?

It’s made by a CDPR employee, so yeah.

Combat in Witcher 1 reminds me a lot of the combat in Batman, ie. getting your timing right rather than actually moving around within a space.

That being said, the depth of storyline etc from both games is what really made them stand out for me. Definitely hyped by the open world and to find out what comes next (although I’m always a bit hampered by the “you were a god in the previous game with jor gear and skills out the ass, but now you’re kinda meh again” from sequels).

First things first, this is on my most wanted list. Witcher 2 imo was absolutely fanstastic and I cant see this as anything but one of the greatest games ever. Couldnt be more hyped.

..and second.. I love GON, but man the videos need some work. Please record on a better microphone, pretty please. Please also give it some small treatment. Please. If you do not have the means please send it this way first and I will do it. Also, please if you are not a voice actor do not script what you are going to say and just wing it, please. Or, even better, send me to the preview and Ill do the video, voice and treaments. Please.

still waiting on them to announce what editions will be available… Im one of the Few who got the incredibly rare Collectors Edition with the Bust last time… hoping to have all three collectors editions and make the set perfect

may need to look at upgrading my rig closer to release date, poor old 6950s are starting to feel a little slow :’(

good preview, but tim SHOW SOME LIFE!! i want to hear emotion in your voice, ravage me with your, non-monotoneness?
