Player housing coming to Star Wars: The Old Republic

Star Wars: The Old Republic seems to be slowly going to the way all big-budget MMORPGs have lately, by which I mean adding in all the features that its rivals have until they all feel almost identical if you squint hard enough. The latest probably-much-requested addition to be touted is player housing.

BioWare’s Eric Mucso teased the feature during a Twitch stream, but the relevant part was helpfully snipped out and popped up on YouTube. No official announcement, or details like a date, have surfaced so far, but you can at least have a look at it below.

This is a thing that would absolutely have me back playing SWTOR. I needs me some more details!

The engine and questing is what ruined it.
Engine was very generic “hero engine.”

Plus a lot of the quests were typical MMO quests. However the storyline ones were excellent.

I don’t think they brought too much new to the game.

Pretty sad actually. It had a lot of promise.

Good to see Bioware are listening to the player-base though.

10dollars,

I agree completely. I had a Commando go to level 50 and I loved the first 2/3rds of the storyline. There was a bit of a grind whilst leveling (especially the slow mount speeds throughout Hoth and Tatooine), but when I hit 50 it was just WoW raiding all over again except with even numbered parties. Oh and I was annoyed about the PvP farming that was going on as it just wasn’t enjoyable for open world, especially with such a player count mismatch where Imperials often outnumbered Rebels 2:1 or even 3:1 and win trading was happening. No game has ever done WoW raids as good as WoW has so I feel like they shouldn’t even bother trying to duplicate it.

The only MMOs I’m waiting for these days to steal me away like WoW did all those years ago are Titan (although considering it was restarted in like August that’s still a long way off) and Eternal Crusade which is looking like W40K: Space Marine: The MMO which excites me, although the netcode would have to be decent and not fall for terrible balancing like WAR did.

I just want a game to be able to play long-term and enjoy, but no games are really providing that for me seeing as I don’t have the time nor the enjoyment for WoW raiding anymore. DotA 2 is nice every once in a while but it’s only good in short bursts every month or two, and Starcraft 2 was too stressful laddering and keeping up with the meta game to be able to get wins and avoid falling for the equivalent of the Fool’s Gambit. Wildstar is just a shinier WoW (or at least the hour I played of it), and EQ: Next still remains to be seen.

It’s probably going to be severely limited for F2P (and even preferred status) players. I’m trying to find things to get me back into TOR and while this may help I probably wont even bother.

Its like upgrading the sheets on the titanic, firstly that ship already sailed and second it already sunk, so yeah everyone likes plush sheets but its totally pointless.

All in all it would have been cheaper and more profitable to do a proper RPG based off the Old Republic IP and have sold it as a SP game like the previous two…

Instead it’s still this mess which while sharpened up a bit still has the same amount of point as a leadless pencil…

I dont see the point of making player housing when you have your own ship as well. Why not just make your ship more customisable. That would make sense for most of the characters anyway with all the traveling they have to do

Indeed.

This is just more cheap window dressing that misses the point. Much like the shitty on rails space combat. Hell, they could have monkey wrenched a reasonable xwing/tie fighter style game in to SWTOR and people would have been selling kidneys to throw more money at it…

I would have spent money on knights of the old republic 3 and 4

Cartel Packs chock full of housing items incoming!

Anything short of Galaxies’ (before it was ruined) sandbox MMO feel is always going to feel sub-par for anyone who played it. Housing? How about communities with their own player driven governments etc? That was Galaxies. NOT CURTAINS IN A HOUSE.

I had a house in Galaxies – I had a title deed, had to pay council rates, and was a member of the local militia. That is what people are after, not (as I have said) curtains, lamp shades, etc etc….
