UPDATE: The Elder Scrolls Online’s full beta client is gone from our file mirror

The Elder Scrolls Online

UPDATE (Monday 10 Feb) We have been asked to remove the Elder Scrolls Online‘s client from our file mirror. Sorry guys.

ORIGINAL STORY: Yes, even though we are retiring the file library at the end of the month that doesn’t mean we’re not keen to save you as much quota as we can (while we can).

If you’re playing in this weekend’s Elder Scrolls Online beta (you will have received an email notification by now) then you’ll probably have seen the size of the beta client and start to bleed from your eyes. 26GB! Well don’t worry — now you can download it from here.

For more on the closure of the file library, read this article here.

Games these days sure don’t hold back on size do they? funnily enough I just started playing Skyrim again.

Tim, why is the file storage being retired may I ask? this came as quite a surprise to me.

Or if you are on ADSL2+ go the Exetel unlimited plan for $49.99 a month and don’t worry about quota again yay.

Strange you use the file mirror when you’re about to remove it. :S

Hey Matty,

As we discuss in this link (http://games.on.net/2014/02/announcement-games-on-net-to-retire-file-library-at-end-of-february/) we’re seeing more and more people using Steam/Origin etc rather than using the file library anymore. It’s just a sign that the way PC gaming works is changing and we’re trying to make the best use we can of our resources.

I know the title say “full beta client”, but does anyone know if there’s any extra download beyond this chunk? They always seem to love adding on that extra 10gig or whatever just to mess with people with limited quota.

Don’t think so. I left it downloading overnight at the 10GB point and it didn’t go over as far as I’m aware. Download was REALLY slow though. Varied from 20kb/s to 200kb/s at most.

Once downloaded, I go to run the files and it does nothing. What is wrong with my computer skills here?

I try running the launcher and it does nothing. Go straight to the base files and run the eso.exe and I get in but cant login…

edit: well I obviously wasnt redirecting the files properly. Now i am getting a error trying to login.

Final edit: Beta starts in about 3 hours.

,

I think you’re about 12 hours ahead of yourself on the timer.
It’s noon Friday US EST, Which is the wee hours of the morning Aus time.

Fark!

I’ve just spend the last couple of days downloading this monster and you go and whack it on here. Could have saved some of my quote and then the data block I just purchased >:(

Only have 800 Mb to go too…

I have keys avaliable if there’s anyone who was unlucky

Was there any reason why TESO made us download 26GB when the game fully unpacked itself is 29.4GB? I would’ve thought that compression would’ve made the game so much smaller to download or is there a special reason why they can’t do it?

Spooler, I’ll grab a key if you’re happy to give one away!

Thanks for the mirror guys, downloading now.

Also curse.com is giving away beta keys if anyone still needs one.

neferseki,

The more you compress the file the longer it takes to decompress the file so minimal compression was used … as most people don’t have quotas or use the ridiculously huge quotas that they have.

Dammit Already downloaded it, than saw this

Cheers for the headsup realOne! Got my key now.

lordporksword,

inboxed

*edit*
Bah nevermind >.< lol

neferseki,

The reason I’d argue is that they didn’t want people just downloading the game and treating this as an early demo, so they didn’t compress it to prevent your average joe casual gamer from getting the game and seeing it in all its bug ridden beta glory. That and its a beta, you should be reporting bugs not treating it like a demo.

Besides all that I’ve not heard anything good about the Beta anyway from friends, so I’m in no hurry to download this.

gammad,

the stress testing is really just a demo … the only data form these they actually care about is the server data… The majority of bug reporting that actually matters is done on a completely different beta.

I can give a spare key to my son Spooler, if you don’t need it for anyone else.

This will be a good test to see how quick she comes down via NBN!
