Star Citizen reaches $37 million in crowdfunding, 5000 player organisations already created

Cloud Imperium and Roberts Space Industries have announced that Star Citizen has now clocked over $37 million, which unlocks a new star system — the Tanga System.

“At the heart of an unusual rectangular planetary nebula, lies the Tanga System. The inner planets were engulfed as the star entered the red giant phase. The expanded habitable zone unfroze a small world on the former outer ring and for several hundred million years made it habitable,” writes Chairman Roberts.

“Life began to emerge and was just reaching a primitive state when the star collapsed into a white dwarf, throwing the planet back into a deep freeze, then blasting the atmosphere away with the resulting planetary nebula. That’s how the system was found: Only two worlds (speculation that there could have been three to four more) but both are dead planets with no atmosphere.”

Roberts also explains that 5,000 player organisations have already been created in the less than 24 hours that the player organisation tool has been online.

The next goal at $38 million is an “unexplored natural wonder”, a strange new system codenamed UDS-2943-01-22. Voting on the $40 million goal is still ongoing, but since we’ve already reported (ahead of time) on Star Citizen hitting $40 million, you can take our word for it.

DropBears is one such organisation.

Inching ever closer to that pony.

I just had a customer in the store a few minutes ago telling me that you can take off in the hangar module now. Is this true? I haven’t played around with it since mid last year, usually I’ll jump in, fiddle around for a minute or two before realizing it hasn’t changed that much and leaving it for a few weeks.

Edit: no you cannot fly atm. Or I am unable to at this time.

Not true. There might have been a few test assets (a space map) that made it into the module a few updates ago and modders used the cryengine sdk to play around with some improvised stuff but nothing official or accurate of the engine vector mechanics, but I think it was all patched out. Also other modders have pulled the models out and attached the SDK’s helicopter scripts. The truest modded stuff has come from people mining the script files to find more animation stuff.

So no, not yet. DFM should come out within the next couple of months though.

I’d rather see these extra millions being poured into ‘polish’ at this point. What is more important – a million bucks worth of some random star system, or a million bucks worth of code optimisation and careful refinement of the engine?

Ignorance as ever leads to misunderstanding.

The Millions aren’t being spent on relatively small things like the stretch goals. They represent only a very minor portion of how those funds are used. The rest is used to expand the dev teams and increase the speed at which they can bring all of the ideas and goals to the people who have pledged already and all those potential customers at beta and full release.

This has been said multiple times EVERY time there is a post about Star Citizen stretch goals. Yet people still seem unable to read, or do some basic logic, let alone a 2 minute check to back up their assumptions.

^this… I’m over trying to correct people about Star citizens stretch goal system. at this point I think people are just being willfully ignorant.

libbaz,

Ah ok, I think I can hold out for that instead. Still kind of fun to jump in and drool over my ship every now and again while I wait I guess.

spooler,

I know what you mean even people who seem to be regulars on the forums seem to say it too.

I’d rather see those millions used to hire more staff so it doesnt take 5 months to make each ship. Slow development is slow.

So anyone made a GON organisation yet?

nekosan,

in the recent wingman’s hangar they said they hired at least 5 new staff that I can think of, the previous one was like 8 new staff, they also setup their UK site for Foundry 42 with 15+ new guys.

Trust me, they’re hiring.

TheBeckoner07

yeah the hiring was stalled because they couldn’t get an office. now that they have they are hiring like crazy.

dylz52,

No one has yet
