Splinter Cell doesn’t have the “luxury of knowing the formula” that Assassin’s Creed has, says Ubisoft

Splinter Cell: Blacklist

Splinter Cell: Blacklist‘s animation director Kristjan Zadziuk has said in an interview with OXM that the series was “still evolving”.

“We haven’t got the luxury of Assassin’s Creed where we know our formula,” he said. “If you look at them, there’s no two Splinter Cells that are the same. They’ve all evolved and adapted.”

“That, to me, is what makes it really exciting. We’re getting closer to what that game is, and maybe it isn’t necessarily about Splinter Cell being a 15-16 million Call of Duty-type best-seller. Maybe it’s just about it being the best Splinter Cell that it can be.”

Blacklist was a great stealth game — here’s our video review, hint hint — but it didn’t perform too well financially.

hrmmm. to me, blacklist seemed exactly the same as conviction??

deserteagle1266,

Not reaaallly, certainly the ‘mark and kill’ mechanic remained (which I hardly used) but Blacklist seemed closer to Chaos Theory (the best imo) than Conviction did.

Credit to the developers, they’ve tried to be a little different with each game release. It hasn’t always worked out the best (ie Double Agent) but I actually don’t want them to regurgitate the same shit every year, like Assassins Creed.

I Liked blacklist. It was a pretty good splinter cell game.

Black list was good but it was too much isolated Arena based stealth.. “Here is a square zone that you have and here is the enemies” figure it out.

Not “you have an objective and here is an actual complex to get through.”

Loved it. only hated the plane map tbh. but gameplay wise loved it.

Oh god was that part horrible I retried it 15 times trying to get a 100% stealth kill on that level but it just became to much of a head screw….
