Lord of the Rings Online extends license to 2017, shutdown fears averted

Turbine have announced that they’ve reached an agreement to extend the Lord of the Rings license until 2017.

Concerns that the game was going to shut down were raised following an announcement by Turbine that they would not be creating any new raids or dungeons.

“I just wanted to drop in and address the concerns surrounding the license, again,” said Turbine’s community manager on the forums.

“We have said as far back as July of 2013, we plan to support LOTRO for many years to come. I really want to be as clear as possible on this subject to avoid any further confusion or misunderstanding. The license was renewed.”

Later on in the same thread, it was confirmed that the license was extended until 2017.

An expired license is what cause EA Mythic to shut down Warhammer Online: Age of Empires late last year.

I love it on release and though it was a great idea, but the graphics leave a lot to be desired these days.

if they try again with a new engine and the entire Middle Earth from the start i will get back in, maybe with smaller areas then the current game.

 

Boring game, poor graphics (these days), they’ve only JUST copied a WoW skill tree system. Poor mechanics, poor quests, woeful UI.

I don’t see the appeal at all. (I have played 45 hours for the record).

Loved this game back in the day, still have a lifetime sub.
Just hate the amount of grind (both in general and with the whole Legendary item mechanic) and underhanded pay-2-win cash store they implemented when they decided to go free-to-play.
You could grind for this deed/play the RNG game to get a proper Legenderay Weapon… or you you could give us monies!! TROLOLOL! -_-

Kind of outright lied when they originally stated they would never sell power on the store, merely convenience – then turned around and offered permanent stat boosts for sale..

‘Twas a fun game back when I respected the company, seems almost every game that goes F2P just drops the ball and becomes crap =(
