Deadpool and other licensed Marvel games gone from digital sale forever

Eagle-eyed Deadpool fans wondering why the game — released just a few short months ago — is no longer available for sale on Steam may be disappointed to learn that it is actually gone forever and will not be coming back.

Deadpool, along with Spider-Man: Friend or Foe, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Spider-Man: Edge of Time, X-Men: The Official Game, X-Men Destiny, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine have all disappeared from any digital stores (including Steam, PSN and XBLA) as part of a contract between Marvel and Activision.

Responding to questions on Twitter, Activision’s Dan Amrich said that “Marvel Activision titles are no longer available for digital download,” and added “Contracts have dates. Whatchagonnado.”

Disc copies are still available, but — especially on PC — may be increasingly difficult to find.

Games still in-development such as Amazing Spider-Man 2 are not affected.

This has also effected Marvel Vs Capcom 2 and Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3. Both have been pulled from XBLA and PSN.

They’ll be back, Marvel loves money.

Glad I picked this up during the steam sales. Not the best game in the world, but definitely a good sense of humour attached to this title.

The Amazing Spider-Man is still on steam for $48.50

Surely Marvel could self publish the games mentioned in the article under a “Marvel Games” type label.

Pretty surprised they’ve not already done this. Since they’ve let this contract expire, that’s probably on the cards though.
