Battlefield 4 “Community Appreciation Month” kicking off in February

DICE send word that February 1st will mark the kick off of “Community Appreciation Month”, a series of events designed to show how much DICE values the community that has stuck with it even through what it acknowledges as some incredibly frustrating bugs.

For each day that you log into the game in February, you’ll receive a Bronze or Silver Battlepack (Bronze for weekdays, Silver for weekends), which contains bonuses like extra camouflage or XP boosts. “Normally, it would take approximately 30 hours gameplay to earn that many packs,” says DICE.

There’s also two new shortcut bundles which will be made available for free during February. These will unlock all grenades and handguns for the base game of BF4, or for Premium players, there will be two additional weapon shortcut bundles which unlock DMRs and shotguns.

A double-XP weekend is also planned for some time during February, along with Community Missions where you’ll work together to unlock Gold Battlepacks. DICE will also be holding frequent developer talks, with details and channels to be announced later.

More details here at the official site.

Just giving away all the unlocks….
Oh another battlepack… ho hum.

They also mention “we are further improving a number of items commonly referred to as “netcode”. This will tighten the overall multiplayer experience, and we will be able to share these items with you in detail soon.”

Though I’m sure some people will complain it’s worse than ever despite any changes made.

Wow , mind = blown… we get some bronze battlepacks with more useless crap in them…

Also , how the fk do people play with those blue and red things telling them where everybody is? :)

Haha yeah it’s annoying. Not nearly as annoying as DMR spam on EVERY GODDAMN MAP. Le sigh.

That’s softcock for ya.

It’s too little too late. Most of the community has bailed given how many unpopulated servers there are.

ARMA 3 has much more on offer.

@Shrapple: Lol good call.

The blog doesn’t appear to be working (blank page). Hopefully EA get that sorted soon.

You’ll need to buy the premium DLC pack for that blog to function correctly.

I didnt buy it after the POS that was BF3, but let me get this straight…

They are awarding the players who stuck with them through the shit by rewarding them with unlocks for playing in February?

They are rewarding those who have already unlocked or been working at said unlocks, by giving them away for free?

Wouldn’t it make more sense to award people who have already logged hours with some reward…, rather than REWARDING NEW PLAYERS? oh wait, that won’t bring in new players. This is a marketing tool not a reward.

crocadrilla,

Not exactly. Battlepacks contain unlocks you can’t get by playing directly (The unlocks in them only come from battlepacks which are rewarded at levels/X kills with a gun. You can get equivalent unlocks via normal progression (ie 10 Kills gives X scope, 20 kills gives Y scope), battlepack ones function the same, but look different).

Giving these is probably a good way to get people who tried it at launch, were unable to play because of bugs, to come back and try it again now they’ve launched a fair pile of patches, vastly improving stability etc

It’s not specifically rewarding those who haven’t stopped playing, but it’ll still provide them with random stuff they may wish to use.

crocadrilla,

You have hit a few nails right on their heads there. It’s not so much about rewarding players, as it is about enticing old players back or new players in.

I rarely have a problem with BF4, it’s my GTG (Go To Game) for quick, easy fun with my mates. Glad to see them doing more for the players, as best they can, let’s not forget that EA is the one who forced their hand, DICE deserve a bit of a break!

Trust it to be in the shortest month :P

Because that is not how it is played. What you are looking at is the spectator mode where everything on the map is shown. The only things you see on your HUD are allies and marked enemies through the spotting system.

But after hitting level 85 I am pretty over this game. The horrible fucking netcode has hit it’s limit with me. Instead of showing “appreciation” maybe they can patch the game and fix it. Oh and yeah, the veteran battlepacks they promised to people who owned BF3 still haven’t been rolled out but they can give battlepacks to people who login on certain days… right.

Netcode issues abound. First thing they could have fixed was the removal of the health of an enemy who kills you. Who cares what their health is. The bigger problem is that it’s broken so you keep seeing people who should be dead have killed you. Way to make everyone rage with a “feature” that doesn’t even work.

Haven’t played in a few weeks. Can’t be bothered until they fix it.

The fact that someone felt hard done by enough to go to the effort of making that image says a lot more about the Battlefield community these days than it does about DICE, I think.

What? You’ve been actively working to fix the game, acknowledged the issues and apologised to fans and now you’re doing something that involves giving rewards to players? What a bunch of absolute assholes, huh?

c0mc0,

Correcting a mistake is not a good thing, it is the first step in making up for a bad thing. I don’t know where the idea comes from that someone should be showered in praise for cleaning up their own shit.

I certainly understand where you’re coming from and I’m not suggesting for a moment that DICE be showered in praise. They royally frakked up BF4′s release. But rest assured – this will hurt them in terms of sales and hopefully EA will learn their lesson here…Who knows…Miracles have happened before, right?

My comments were more directed at the amount of hateful vitriol being spouted by segments of the community that will bitch and moan about literally anything DICE do. They really can’t win regardless of how hard they try now for many people.

The state of the game pisses me off a bit too, but bitching over an attempt to make amends with the community in good faith is just childish.

That people have paid to play with!!

DICE Executive Producer Patrick Bach is on record prior to release saying “it is the most complete, balanced and high quality battlefield game they have ever built” and that they “made improvements to the netcode so BF4 is actually snappier than all previous battlefield games”. I actually bought the game based on this interview, satisfied that they had done enough to improve the game over BF3.

Interview

Do you think he will recant his comments now everyone has bought the game?! Nope he is pretty much just a dodgy salesman.

Frankly DICE deserve everything they get. I couldn’t give a flying Patrick Bach strapped to rocket for battlepacks and XP, I just want a refund at this point.

So wow!
Many pack!
Much whine!

I haven’t had the chance to play as much as my friends so this will give me a chance to catch up a bit with scopes and stuff for guns and grab those XP boosts.

And I have to agree with c0mc0. Honestly I’m not sure some of you are ever happy.
