Among the many other exciting things revealed at the VGX awards on the weekend was an announcement by Double Fine Productions, who revealed the voice cast for their upcoming Adventure game Broken Age. Elijah Wood – best known as that freaky cannibal from Sin City – will be voicing Shay, the male lead, while prolific Canadian voice actor Masasa Moyo will voice Vella, the female lead.

Others included in the cast are Jack Black as Lightbeard and Wil Wheaton as Curtis the Lumberjack, along with Jennifer Hale, Nicki Rapp and CEO of Harmonix Alex Rigopulos, who will portray a character in his own likeness for his substantial donation to the game.

Embedded below is the Wil Wheaton announcement video and you can see the announcement of Elijah Wood over on GameTrailers. Broken Age will be available in two parts, with the first part being available in January 2014.

I do not necessarily worry if my voice actor is a big name or a no-body, I just want it to sound right. Right voice to the body, personality, script.

Good for them, I guess…

Agreed; much better to have a voice that suits a character than the short-term novelty of “hey, I know that guy from TV”.

Tim Schafer has a knack for picking voices for his games though (or at least picking ones that I like). Grim Fandango and Brutal Legend are two of the best voiced lead characters I can think of.

I’m deliberately steering clear of too much info on this one. I backed early enough that I was able to tell my wife “don’t worry honey, they only take our money if they get another few hundred thousand which probably won’t happen”…

You do know that “Brütal Legend follows the story of Eddie Riggs (voiced by Jack Black)”[Wikipedia] right?

I fucking LOVE Wil Wheaton !

rfmachin,

I did, yes. Usually I’m not a fan of games picking out some token hollywood star to sell a few extra copies, but in Tim Schafer’s case he seems to at least pick people that are awesome in the role.

I just don’t get this bloody fascination with Wil Ruddy Wheaton. He was a child actor in a Sci Fi show 1000 years ago and now he spends his days pandering to geeks on social media telling people everything they want to hear.

mindsnare,

Yeah and not a particularly interesting character in that sci fi show that happened 1000 years ago either.

mindsnare,

He bought me beers…
