Electronic Arts have ordered DICE to stop working on any future expansions for Battlefield 4 until such a time as existing bugs with the game can be fixed.

In a statement released to Polygon, EA claimed that “we know we still have a ways to go with fixing the game — it is absolutely our No. 1 priority.”

“The team at DICE is working non-stop to update the game. Since Battlefield 4 China Rising expansion pack was already in the final stages of development by the time issues began with Battlefield 4, we decided to fulfill our promise to deliver it this week, but we’re not moving onto future projects or expansions until we sort out all the issues with Battlefield 4.”

“We know many of our players are frustrated, and we feel their pain. We will not stop until this is right.”

The China Rising expansion appears to have introduced a fresh bunch of bugs into the game, with DICE admitting that the one-hit-kill bug the accompanying patch was meant to solve has only been sort-of solved. “Did it work? Yes and no,” said DICE lead technical scripter Mikael “sliced_lime” Hedberg on Reddit.

EA have put up a new help page specifically for China Rising issues, which you can read here.

I’ve been lucky so far, only a couple of audio glitches where the vehicle noise drops out and the only one shot kills I’ve notice have been ones I’ve made… I hope I haven’t jinxed myself now.

Glad they are finally come to their senses and fixes the problems.

So what they are saying is since day one after release they have been working mainly on DLC for their broken game. arrrg

Not at all, they had two teams, one finishing the China Rising Expansion, the core working on bugs. Now all are working on bugs instead of a team working on the next expansion as they would normally do. Primarily because the game is fubar…

I’ve noticed the 1hit kills a fair bit too, still annoying that it double applies damage. The netcode is the main issue. It’s a mess, needs to be fixed. I complained about this in BF3 but they claimed otherwise (it was never fixed). Not until MOH Warfighter came out and openly talked about the lag from the netcode did they acknowledge it as a problem.

Hm, so it might be worthwhile buying BF4 soon.

Wonder how this news is going to affect the Premium calendar. Will it need to be extended?

Given the bulk of the content in the expansions is assets (art), not code, I’m not sure I get the angst. Maps, guns and game modes virtually lifted straight from the last game are not going to require a huge amount of code. Maybe that’s why they left what little coding there was for the work experiencing kid to do.

I kid, I kid!

But seriously, the majority of work on expansion would be for the guys who are working on new weapons, maps etc are not the guys who will troubleshoot net code, look at rebalancing the game etc. The majority would be artists. Having them work on new content doesn’t slow down patching.

It’s kind of like blaming the guy that works at the Holden plant cafeteria for your new Commodore being late for delivery.

Good to hear they are trying to fix it at least…

I got sucked in and got premium so I could play the new maps with my mates and didn’t have to wait 2 weeks and after playing for a few hours it now tells me I need to download the expansion to play on china rising servers…

Apparently there’s now a bug that the game doesn’t recognise your account is premium lol….

Come on guys, you should all know better than to play a game like this on day one. Wait at least a day or two after release to see if there’s massive issues and judge your time of purchase from that. If its buggy as all hell (like this) hold off and you’ll find it cheaper or they fix the issues. If its solid from day one (which hasn’t really happened ever), wait until you see the response to the issues. Its not rocket surgery and its not like they’re going to run out of keys or something. Also didn’t EA say that BF4 would have a great launch because of all the testing and stuff they did and that it’d put other publishers’ launches to shame? Glad you’re still providing amusement in some form EA, because your games have been rubbish for a fair while now.

People seem to think having a 50 – 100 ms latency between other players can be mitigated. What you see in that gif is the latency smoothing. You can now ofcourse set this to 0 if you want to see the lowest accurate latency. But there will ‘ALWAYS’ be latency until we have some sort of magical internet that uses quantum entangled connections.

Been playing it the last day and its still just as broken, laggy and crashy as ever. What a POS waste of money.
