Battefield 4′s December 9 PC update fixes cover bug, client crashes

Battlefield 4

DICE have patched Battlefield 4 again overnight, as part of their continuing efforts to fix stability issues across the various builds of the game.

The latest patch includes a fix to the bug that was causing some players to get shot through cover, as well as a bunch of client crash issues. Check out the full list below:

  • Shot behind cover when changing stance
  • Sometimes the character stance could get into a multiple frame desync and be part of the problem where you got shot even though your character was actually behind cover. This would mostly affect players doing transitions into crouch and prone as well as moving when crouched. The impact was smaller in a standing stance. This bug fix eliminates this particular desync issue. We have also increased the camera height when crouching and moving to more accurately reflect the actual height of your soldier in that stance (the first person camera was too low when crouching and moving, resulting in that you had a poor representation of how much of your soldier that was actually out of cover.)
  • Fixed one of the most frequently occurring client crashes
  • Fixed broken collision on containers with open doors. The bug previously made grenades bounce back even though the doors were open.
  • Fixed a bug in Defuse mode where defenders could win the round by killing all the attackers without disarming the bomb, if the bomb was disarmed in the previous round.
  • Miscellaneous stability fixes further reducing the number of client crashes
  • Fixed side gunner jitter when aiming in attack boats & transport helicopters
  • Fixed some instances of frame rate drops when shooting at large Levolution objects after they have been destroyed (like the radar dish on Rogue Transmission)
  • Fixed broken aiming for passengers on the China Rising dirt bike
  • Fixed a bug where the sound when capturing a flag was not playing correctly
  • Removed a bug that would double save during MP round transition and SP level transition. This fix will reduce the occurrence of corrupted save files.

Battlefield 4‘s current issues are so rampant that DICE have actually put all other work on hold until the bugs are fixed.

Looks like they havent :-
increased squads to 6 ,
fixed spawn system ,
or addressed snipers one shot killing you as you spawn into battle

I think a few more patches and the game wont feel like a beta anymore, well hopefully.

I don’t know. I never had the revive bug until the last patch. i wasn’t crashing until the last patch… i hope that trend doesn’t continues otherwise I’ll be pushed back into the alpha in a few weeks.

At least they’re getting somewhere :P I only just bought the game and will start playing next week so hopefully it’ll be an ok experience for me!

Yeah, makes the initial cost of the game + Digi deluxe + premium almost seem just f#cking extortionate…

The cost of game + premium means so far BF4 has given me an hour of entertainment for every $1.27 I spent ($106, 83.5 hours so far).

Wish I got this many hours out of other games of this price. (Actually no I don’t, I honestly don’t have that much time for games lol)

Absolutely agreed. I think that my acceptance of the constant crashes is linked to the fact that it only takes 45 seconds to get back in game though… I’d imagine it’d be a hell of a lot more frustrating for people without ssds.

I don’t remember having a single problem during beta release, now i can’t last 30 seconds in Shanghai.

The first game i joined after the update I was rubber banding all over the shop and got the sound loop crash ~10 minutes in. Good work Dice.

every bf launches with a lot of bugs, we all shouldn’t be suprised. Atleast we know DICE support their product and patch it. Just gotta be patient, like we are every BF game lol im holding off for another month or so till a few more patches are out :p

Im regretting I actually ordered this game way back in FEB, I dont like the game anymore, it feels much like BF3 and the weapons handle easier than BF3.

There is no teamwork once again, it just feels like crap compared to BFBC2 or titles before it.

Ive got every BF game up to now and I think, actually this will be the last game in the BF franchise for me which is what happened with COD way back in MW2 for me too.

Time to move on I think.

You might catch me one here and there for a few rounds of Vanilla maps, so im sure you all will probably wont see me because players who dont purchase the DLC get segregated form the rest of the community, which is another thing that pisses me off.

Anyway have fun peeps, I guess it just isnt might type of gaming anymore and old age does make me stroppy too, lol.

This might be a little devil’s advocatey, but i think the “there’s no teamwork” whinge is absolute gobschite. I usually only play pub servers, and there’s usually at least one squad who is working together (sometimes they are on the opposite team, kicking my arse :P). If not, it’s not hard to create your own teamwork. People usually pick up on it if they have two brain cells to rub together, and if not, well – change servers and Favourite the ones that you had a positive experience in.

Too true, i joined a random squad the other Night 3 engy’s and a support class in the 4 seater scout chopper turns it into a god mode death machine :D

Hmm since they don’t mention anything about fixing the xp-boosters, I guess it must be an intended feature that they work cumulative with the special xp-bonus.

If you use a 200% booster during a +100% special, you don’t get 400% xp as I would’ve expected, you actually get 600% (cumulative bonus).

This is especially crazy as it also applies to any xp that you get from achievements and medals.

Last night I made over 180k xp in one round due to that x6 boost. o_O

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that my distaste for the game isn’t so much with the bugs or stability (generally runs reasonably well for me). No, my issue is with other players. The abuse thrown around in the chat window, their intolerance for others who might be a little less aware or skilled… well, it frustrates me and it’s just not cricket. It’s an increasing number of players that ruin the experience for me.
