NVIDIA’s GeForce 331.82 driver released, get ready for AC4 and NFS: Rivals

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag

By on November 20, 2013 at 4:13 pm

NVIDIA have once again updated their drivers (gosh do they ever stop?) and this time around it’s people with mad 4K monitors, assassins and racing car drivers who are the winners, with big improvements in all of these critical areas.

In addition to being “Game Ready” for Assassin’s Creed 4 and NFS Rivals, the 331.82 drivers improve performance at 3840×2160, with NVIDIA claiming a 50% increase in frame rate for Battlefield 4, Crysis 3, and Metro: Last Light.

The driver suite also upgrades NVIDIA’s ShadowPlay, We’re quite impressed with ShadowPlay, and you can read all about that here.

If you’d like to save on some quota, you can download these drivers from our file library. Isn’t that nice.

Any point bringing out a new driver for PC NFS Rivals , NFS R does not go over 30 FPS on PC and does not support joysticks or wheels

Would be nice if NVIDIA finally fixes their drivers to work properly on 400/500 series cards. They’re still very popular cards and capable of most modern games, but every driver after 314.22 causes eventually system freezing for a heck of a lot of people (https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/621899/geforce-drivers/desktop-internet-browser-freeze-or-tdr-thread-w-geforce-460-560-gpus-updated-10-29-13-see-page-17-/)

Apparently the newest drivers still have the issue, which is just wonderful.

charliebrownau,

I don’t even bother checking out EA racing games anymore. :\

filezilla,

I must be lucky as I update regularly and don’t have problems with 580 SLI

charliebrownau,

Does not support wheels ??? Does not support wheels ???? Does not….
Crikey ! Crikey !! NOT possible… is it ?

Does not support joystick, but surely must support XBOX controller, yes ?
Monopoly$oft has pushed the XBOX controller as default on just about every other game, so maybe they paid EA more than the usual amount to block wheels from this game ?
.

filezilla,

I’ve been using 331.58 on my GTX560ti machine for close to a month. No problems.
A lot of people have been having issues with the 320.xx series drivers with 400/500 series cards (and newer cards for that matter), and that was acknowledged by Nvidia, but I think the driver issue is starting to get into urban myth territory now.

Every driver release gets people swearing up and down that the driver is the source of all the evil on their machine, but while I did stick with 310.90 for a long time, I’ve never, in just on ten years, had a problem with drivers (baring one corrupt install).
I only update two to three times a year though.

dinwiddie,

It’s definitely not an urban myth. It does seem to affect some people and others not, but I’m one of those with an affected card (GTX 460) and it means I have to hold off buying games that are anything particularly new and advanced until they fix this issue, if ever. Read the thread – NVIDIA acknowledges the problem, and there are plenty of pissed off people. It’s making me question whether to go to AMD for my next card.

I did say it was starting to get into urban myth territory. Go to AMD and you will find an equal number of people swearing the drivers are flawed,
and who will buy Nvidia next time. It’s what forums
are all about – Problems, and pissed off people.
When I first started reading Nvidia forums I found posts for every driver from people who swore that
driver was basically flawed, so I started installing all these flawed drivers, but never had a problem.
The forums magnify issues. There are many thousands of users who don’t visit the forums because the don’t have problems.

From the article -
“We are experiencing difficulties reproducing some of the issues that are submitted by users and therefore we are asking users to fill out the form below to provide us with better data that we can use to setup similar configurations as our users. ”

Prior to this the only acknowledgement of a problem with drivers I’ve read concerned 400/500 series cards with the 320.xx drivers.

Maybe, like Ralph I’ve just been lucky all this time,
but I reckon so called driver issues are more often to do with software, oc and systems settings or ‘optimisations’.

Optimisations in newer drivers are mostly for newer series cards and in recent times SLI and 3D.
Those percentage points they give for older cards
don’t really add up to many fps, so you shouldn’t
really need to avoid newer games just because you
have had issues with drivers past 314.22.

dinwiddie,

Yeah, it’s true the older cards won’t get many improvements. I’m just worried about game-specific fixes you sometimes get in newer drivers that apply to all cards, not just the new ones.

Meh, it’s life I suppose. If I wanted painless gaming and not have to worry about driver/software issues, I’d have gotten a console. :)

lol – so true mate.

One of the things to look into in relation to the browser issue they mention is any addons you may be using.
It’s these little things that can conflict that are so hard to find, and can make TDR errors and BSOD to difficult to troubleshoot.
People sometimes get too hung up on the drivers just because the TDR error points the bone at them. It ain’t necessarily so.

I reckon most problems that are in fact driver related are more to do with a corrupt install.
Only installing what is used can help too. For me that’s just the driver and PhysX.

filezilla,

Thankyou for finding that, I was wondering where it was. 560 is playing up here and no drivers help, just did the “revert to an older one” like in the survey so hope it works out.

Whoa, I just realised I’ve been having hangups and freezes in recent weeks/months.
GeForce GTS 450.
Of course it could be anything, but hey rolling back some drivers could be worth a try. It’ll be a bittersweet victory if that’s the solution, however.
I like the little fixes that updated drivers bring, and I’m not buying a new card any time soon. The old 450 still purrs like a kitten on the most recent games (not to mention financial concerns).

edit: lol, just updated to this latest driver. blue screen in the first hour. nvdllsrv.sys or whatever haha. ah well.

Tried these drivers for Battlefield 4 hoping it would help with all the beta crashing. Yes beta. Battlefield 4 is not a final product.

Sad to say, I think it has made it worse :(

Lol yah they kind of suck now hey. NFS Shift was kick ass though.

Odd, my drivers update automatically through Geforce Experience and I have a GTX 580 and have 0 driver issues.

You can go AMD for your next card but better hope you aren’t playing games like BF4. A game where it says made for ATI yet people with ATI cards have the most problems.

It’s not like one camp avoids all the issues where as the other doesn’t.
