DayZ drops new footage of Standalone

DayZ

By on November 18, 2013 at 1:06 pm

Are you looking for something to watch while you have your lunch? Then look no further friend, as DayZ creator Dean Hall has uploaded eight and a half minutes of new, unedited footage of DayZ standalone, and you can watch it right now.

As unedited footage of the game in pre-alpha, the video has its share of bugs, but I’m sure DayZ fans will agree it’s looking rather good. Taken from a multiplayer session it has exactly what you’d expect – zombie axing, exploring and survival. One neat part you might not have seen in action takes place about halfway in, when a can opener is used to open a tin of tuna. Overall, it’s not the world’s most interesting video, but it certainly makes me wish DayZ was out already (again.) Check it out embedded below.

It’s funny, I *really* liked the concept when it first came out, but I only ever experienced bugs and hackers which really turned me off.

I sincerely hope this game is actually good.

Edit: That video is a really good example of Breathing Simulator 2014.

It just looks awful. The animations are shockingly bad. I don’t know why they’d even show people this. If its meant to excite people, its doing the opposite, its just demonstrating how far away from being done they really are. If this is the stage they’ve got it at and what they think is worth showing people, they’re still miles away from finishing. The genre they made popular is filling up with other titles that are being made by better funded, more talented or just faster developing studios. By the time they’re done with this buggy pile of rubbish on a terrible, outdated engine, everyone will be thoroughly tired of smacking zombies or playing a much better version of this game developed by someone competent.

Blargh… I hate motion blur in games gives me a headache, this seems to have a shitload of it. Also don’t like post processing.. First 2 things i make sure are turned off in games.

AND THEREFORE THE PROJECT IS COMPLETELY DOOMED

surgeon,

I did find it amusing that they said that. Its probably true.

Looks pretty average. Only zombie game I’m interested in at the moment is Dying Light.

Wow that looks terrible. This game has no chance. The only reason Arma games can survive on such bad engines and with so many bugs is because there is no other option for that type of game and also people who like that game are pretty hardcore gamers that can put up with these things. DayZ has a wider audience and one that won’t put up with the shit quality that is in that video (and I doubt it will get much better by release).

Its ok, by the time DayZ relaunches we’ll all be playing star citizen.

Yeah I don’t care if this is pre-alpha. They’ve been working on this thing for a year and it barely looks any different or any more polished than the 1 man mod. How many bloody people have they got working on this thing and what the hell have they been doing? It STILL looks like a 1 man mod.

Nasty Wet Smear

Hey! Generic Zombie In Brown Coat is now Generic Blonde Woman!… I miss the coat. :(

Wow, so this game was amazing when it came out as a mod despite serveral things:
1) BUGS
2) HACKERS
3) ANIMATIONS AND ENGINE FAILURE

I was so exited when I heard they were making their own standalone, first thing I thought was that they could get rid of the POS engine that is ARMA. After watching this video it is clear that:

1) ANIMATIONS are still sh!7
2) Sounds are exactly the same
3) Looks like the same game… Bugs?
4) Needs to compete with dying light… why bother?

LOL at the disclaimer, ROFL at the fact that people still commented anyway.

Because we aren’t stupid and know most this stuff is going to be the same in the released product.

I really enjoyed Day Z in it’s initial stages, it filled up fairly quick with multitudes of hackers though which made it unenjoyable to play.

Sure, that’s why. I always take time to knock Pre-Alpha footage. I find it easier to mock something before it’s finished and might be good. It’s just easier, you know?

Meanwhile, is there any news on single player for this? I know I ask every time, but… Well, I don’t have an excuse, I just want to know. :)

Feigned reverse psychology.

PS — Needs more motion blur and lens flare.

PPS — Welcome to development hell.

nastywetsmear: Pre-Alpha footage.

don’t talk, there is no such thing as “pre alpha” other than “there’s 0 code for this” an alpha build is any build of a program that has not been released to people outside the development team.

Saying things like “pre alpha” serves only to show your level of ignorance and the level at which you buy into games marketing.

I was hoping to find a quote or FAQ or something to dissuade you from needing to ask this and stumbled upon:

Q: I have to ask: Will there be a single player option with Day Z standalone? If so, will there be roving NPCs that function on a need->get kind of mentality to prevent them from starving to death?

A: Probably. But I am unlikely to work on that. Later once this is successful we might get a team to do that or we will open it up to the community.

From an interview with Rocket on Reddit, comes from a link on the dayzmod website.

Also apparently there was a leaked alpha around which included a single player mode. Take that piece of info with a grain of salt. Or maybe an entire sack, I haven’t tried it myself…

Ohhhh. Well, I spose I can lug around a bag of salt for a while and see what happens. The Pre-Alpha stuff looks like it continues the same basic things that made the original mod interesting.

spooler: there is no such thing as “pre alpha” other than “there’s 0 code for this”

Yep. The development of this game appears to be making negative progress.
