Customisable vehicle sandbox deathmatch game Scraps up for funding on Kickstarter

Ever wanted to assemble your own ramshackle, Mad-Max style vehicle out of spare parts and hurl it around a deathmatch arena shooting all of your friends who are trying to do the same thing? Now you can! That’s assuming that Scraps, the in-development title from a little New Zealand developer, can make it over the line on Kickstarter.

Scraps is inspired by games like Interstate ’76, Stratosphere: Conquest Of The Skies and LEGO Racers, and aims to strip everything back to that core concept of building your own death machine — or your own totally unbalanced, un-steerable monstrosity — and throwing it into battle.

Developer Bill Borman explains that one of his major gripes with LEGO Racers was that even terrible designs just worked “as if by magic”.

“I want to be able to build a car that sucks. A car that falls over whenever it corners or only has enough power to fire its guns once a minute,” he says. “I want each component you place to actually have a function, and have a physical effect. Not to the point of adding needless complexity to the game, like having to wire everything together; just obvious things, like your vehicle being lop-sided if you put all your guns on one side.”
