World of Warcraft’s connected realms updated, more coming

World of Warcraft Realm List

By on October 28, 2013 at 11:17 am

Blizzard have updated the list of connected realms for World of Warcraft, as they attempt to drive up the number of players on low-population realms.

The following realms are now connected:

  • Auchindoun and Laughing Skull
  • Black Dragonflight and Skullcrusher
  • Aegwynn and Gurubashi
  • Balnazzar and Warsong
  • Burning Blade and Onyxia
  • Chromaggus and Garithos
  • Dalvengyr and  Dark Iron
  • Dethecus and Detheroc
  • Dunemaul, Maiev, Boulderfist and Bloodscalp
  • Hakkar and Aegwynn
  • Rivendare and Firetree

Plans for the next two batches of realms to be joined have also been revealed, and you can read those here.

For those of you who are unaware, connected realms basically act as a single realm for all intents and purposes: the same guilds, the same raids, the same auction house, the same dungeons and so on.

Why not just be obvious and say it’s a type of server merge? Or just close the unpopulated server and move the people to another low pop server to even things out. Also perhaps they should take out world PvP.. there is no need for it anymore and it leaves the game open for mixed faction teams in BG’s and make it possible to quest and party with the other faction.

BAM!! more people to play with!

They’ve stated that they feel people become attached to their names/guilds/etc that may have to be renamed due to true server merging.

Also it’s a software side merge, the servers themselves are still the same, just everything else is being connected.
