Montgomery Markland, one of the producers on Wasteland 2, recently updated the Kickstarter page for Wasteland 2 with a large swathe of excellent news for those of us cool kids who are looking forward to post-apocalyptic pandemonium. In Update 37, Markland explains how the world map will work (think Mount & Blade mixed with Fallout or Arcanum), the kinds of things you will have to keep an eye on to survive while travelling (like dehydration and radiation) and how enemies and encounters are set out (no scaling, wooop!)
Markland also explains the current status of the beta, which is currently going through a limited run before being released on Steam’s Early Access, as is usually the case these days. As Markland explains, the full game will be available in a variety of formats, at least one of which with zero DRM, but Valve’s handling of logistics makes things significantly easier for InXile, so the beta will only be available through Steam.
Markland wrapped up the update with some information on the digitally remastered version of the original Wasteland InXile announced back in August. Along with actually working on modern computers without a buttload of luck and prayer, the new version of Wasteland will also feature uprezzed portraits, multiple saves and integration of the original paragraph texts into the game. It will also be free for all backers – including late backers through the Wasteland store. Check out the Kickstarter update for more information – it’s an interesting read.
