New Alien game in the works at Creative Assembly as SEGA trademarks ‘Alien: Isolation’

It looks like the catastrophic failure of Aliens: Colonial Marines wasn’t enough to convince SEGA to give up on one of their best licensed properties, with Creative Assembly reportedly now tasked to create a new Aliens experience.

A trademark for Alien: Isolation was spotted by SiliconEra, and Kotaku is claiming that they’ve spoken to a source on the inside who revealed that the game will be use “both stealth and horror elements” and is “inspired by games like Dishonored and Bioshock”.

It will reportedly follow the story of Amanda Ripley, daughter of Ellen Ripley, although quite how this fits into canon isn’t explained yet. Kotaku’s source says SEGA took the negative feedback from Colonial Marines very seriously and has already delayed the game by a year, having previously planned to announce it at 2013.

Too soon? Surely we need longer to mourn over the previous Aliens title.

Last time CA tried something different to Total Wars games it didn’t turn out very well. I’d like to say that I think they’ve learnt their lesson from that and I’m optimistic, but recent performances lead me to a different conclussion.

We’ll just ignore that CAs already working on 2 other games shall we. I don’t think CA nor Sega are up to releasing 3 titles in the next year, they couldn’t even get one right this year and suffered some of the most notorious releases we’ve seen to date. I don’t see how you can recover from that. I think its downhill from here.

Once bitten……

Me thinks I’ll wait until it’s in the $5 bin and had several reviews. Love the Aliens – hate the games. So sad.

Still haven’t A:CM. The silence from Gearbox goes on…

I’m still upset I bought colonial marines…. again nope.

I’d be happy with a Left 4 Dead style game but with Aliens and Marines…is that too hard to ask for??

I’d love a XCOM style turned based tactical game based in the Aliens IP. Man that’d be fun.. but mix it up a bit, not every mission is about fighting and killing, some could be an unarmed civilian running for they’re life, using the environment to keep them selves alive etc.

Ok my ideas may not be good ones, but I’d still love a game like that.

Well I dunno…

I don’t have much expectations but always happy to have some hope.

Hasn’t SEGA defiled the corpse of the Alien franchise enough already…?

following the story of Amanda Ripley… so it’s going to be a game where you’re disappointed your mum didn’t show up for your eleventh birthday, like she promised, then you get over it. you go on about your life, get married, don’t have any kids, and die at the age 67 ( or whatever it was). Booya! sounds like a great premise for an Aliens game :) Have about as much to do with aliens as what A:CM did too :)

You want some good ideas for Aliens games, SEGA? come give me a call.

please don’t its had enough

mercinarie,

There should be an Aliens mod pack for l4d2 on the workshop

AvP2 is great. I had fun with AvP: Extinction too (the console RTS), but maybe that’s just me..

Your own fault I guess. I was excited as hell for A:CM back in 2008 when we had a few screenies and a game concept that sounded like Republic Commando. Then suddenly the trailer comes out and the game looks like garbage (they didn’t show off any AI, levels looked poorly designed, alien designs were just bad, sound didn’t sound good, they didn’t show any decent animations, etc) and people were excited over it, then it just looked more and more garbage over time. I remember linking some godawful prerelease gameplay here a few times that just had a shooting gallery for aliens.

I’m surprised that anyone was surprised at how the game turned out at release. They seemed to telegraph quite a lot in advance, at least enough I felt that I cancelled my pre-order despite being active on the WP thread for the game since ’09.

Sounds like a good idea to me!

Sounds good.

I also think a Syndicate-style aliens game would be epic. I mean the real Syndicate, of course… you have a squad of 4-8 marines, view a base/ship/planet from an isometric perspective, and guide them through the map while they fend off waves of xenomorphs. The player could be in the role of the commanding officer back in the dropship/APC.

As for this new game… inb4 they announce lame non-canon alien types.
