Call of Duty: Ghosts will require 50 GB of your hard drive space

The system requirements for Call of Duty: Ghosts on PC have been released by NVIDIA — of all people — and they’re revealing that the game will require a staggering 50 GB of your hard drive.

Also causing mutterings of “hrm, okay” is the reveal that the recommended video card is an NVIDIA GTX 780 or better, which is pretty high when you consider that the quality of the footage we’ve seen so far really doesn’t seem to require it.

Here’s the specs:

Minimum System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 7 64-Bit / Windows 8 64-Bit
  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 2.66 GHZ / AMD Phenom X3 8750 2.4 GHZ or better
  • RAM: 6 GB RAM
  • HDD: 50 GB HD space
  • Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti / ATI Radeon HD 5870 or better
  • Sound: DirectX Compatible Sound Card
  • DirectX: 11
  • Internet: Broadband connection and service required for Multiplayer Connectivity. Internet connection required for activation.

Recommended System Requirements

  • Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780

Don’t need the rest of the system with the video card I guess :P

Seems excessive, maybe there’s more than we’ve seen to it that needs it.

It probably requires that much if they changed the install method. Many games on steam nowadays are doing the compressed file download which then extracts to the full game. This needs a large amount of hard drive space to do.

The game will likely only take up around 30GB of hard drive space once installed. But for a Cod game that’s huge considering all previous games have been under 10GB.

Have they finally changed? Finally innovated. No more copy paste?

What is this madness.

They are probably counting the DLC

They probably haven’t made any effort to compress the textures, or something like that.

I sense an attempted Jedi mind trick. They want us to thimk a COD game finally has modern graphics by upping the requirements.

Either that, or they actually have updated the look. Who knows?

That’s what I got from it too >.>

My BF3 install with all the trimmings is about half of that.

I’m wondering if this is taking into account all the future DLC?

Also wondering what size the console versions are in comparison.

Am I reading this right, or does the minimum system requirement read 6GB of RAM? I’m sorry, but if they ever looked at demographics for PC Users and many new additions to the PC Gaming community only have 4GB of RAM. I am not saying I do, but how are they requiring such high requirements when the fidelity of the game looks merely comparable to a level of BF3, if not lower. There is no environment destruction-based physics, nor anything scale-able to this…

So…CoD stands for Clutter of Disk I assume? :)

I think this is a fairly large overestimation, or if real the “new” Infinity Ward have a lot to learn about Optimisation…

Well that will definitely stop me buying it, not interested in $100 in store and I’m sure as shit not using my entire data allotment for the month downloading.

Clearly all of that is because of the new fish AI.

And the remote controlled dog, don’t forget that.

Recommended – $850 graphics card… gg

Something tells me, she’s not going to be very well optimised port guys….

wow thats crazy! i know they’re releasing high res textures for pc version…i guess max payne 3 was in the same boat. That required heaps of room due to the textures.

i don’t get the requirements for the other bits being so high…nothing i have seen suggests it’d be that demanding :|

If textures were the reason, it won’t run on any system ;D

It’ll be video causing it, if anything. FMV has to be compressed a lot to fit on a single dual-layer DVD. They probably just juiced the hell out of the quality.
