The next Warhammer 40,000 licensed game is a F2P card game

Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf

By on August 20, 2013 at 11:04 am

It looks like Games Workshop’s new licensing approach of “throw it at the wall and see what sticks” has resulted in the creation of Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf, a free-to-play card-based game due out next year.

The game (unsurprisingly) puts you in the shoes of the Space Wolves chapter and sees you fighting against the Word Bearers and the Necrons. Space Wolf will use a grid-based system and turn-based battles, incorporating cards which are used to play tactics, equip items and so on.

Developer HeroCraft have picked up the license; they have pretty extensive experience in this sort of market and will probably do quite well. If you’d like to follow along, there’s an official Facebook page here.

Space Wolf is due out on PC, iOS and Android sometime next year.

Filthy Space Wolves. Unwashed and Uneducated.

You forgot to add ‘AND GOD DAMN AWESOME!’

Not through the eyes of the Thousand Sons. I’ll never forgive them for what they did to Prospero!

Thousand Sons? Ha. FOR LEMAN RUSS!

My, what a large tongue you have!

I never really liked the Space Wolves until I read Prospero Burns, which was just brutally good. Fantastic book.

What would you like instead?

kinkykel,

Okay, I want you to picture a game where you are nothing more than a standard Tau Fire Warrior…

ezelek,

Didn’t they make one already? Although I do love me some Tau.

Space Wolves are a… really baffling choice for this. This whole decision is fairly bewildering.

Just give me a Dark Heresy or Necromunda videogame already.

Battle of the Fang is also quite good, as well as one of the Grey Knight books. I cannot recall which one, but Bjorn scalds the Grey Knights and Inquisitors into doing as he says.

Blaspheme!

Being an old school 2nd edition player, with a 4000 point Space Wolf army stashed away in boxes some where (including a leman russ tank). This is great news, i was tired of the blood angels/ravens featuring in everything!

The broad lack of AAA titles from GW is frustrating. Yes Dawn of War was good, but why isnt there a good title that isnt basically replicating the tabletop experience?

Because replicating the tabletop experience means there’s a very viable way to play the tabletop without shelling out ridiculous amounts of money for army men toys. Not good for profits.

I said ISN”T replicating the tabletop experience. I want to see a tactical shooter, or an RPG, or Gotrek and Felix doing the God of War thing.

Bloody card games… you know can pick up a deck of cards for next to nothing from any store, why the hell is there a market for turning a great universe such as WH40k into a poker game. seriously, a better idea? Diablo styled game play set in the WH40k world. think last stand on huge sprawling worlds rather than just arenas. awesome. Friggin’ Community Chest with power swords. Cards… pfft
