Spelunky out now on Steam

I hope you weren’t planning on getting too much done this weekend, because Spelunky has just arrived on Steam. Derek Yu’s platforming dungeon crawler has been available on PC since 2009, but the Steam launch is expected to re-ignite interest in the almost rogue-like adventure.

The Steam version comes achievements, but also something a bit more unusual – a daily challenge. This newly-introduced feature provides a unique level every day, but players get only one shot at running it each time. Leaderboards track performances for each day and more broadly.

You’ll save 10% off Spelunky if you pick it up during its launch window; it’s currently going for USD$13.49.

I really, really wish there was an option to play using the old assets and the new content. The content is great, but the remixed music REALLY doesn’t fit, and the art style makes the game feel like a cheap iPhone title.
